"content": "'Music for Strings' follows the same basic idea as 'Music for Piano' and, rather than being assembled from musical materials and gestures, develops through the interaction of the parameters of sounds (time, pitch, articulation, timbre and loudness). It is therefore also based on a similar syntax, adapted for the instruments. The timbres of the piece comprise fundamental-dominated sul tasto harmonics and overtone-rich sul ponticello. Its dynamics range from quietly plucked notes to bowed mezzoforte double stops. Throughout, the music progresses about as slowly as possible. The frequency with which new notes appear is primarily determined by two factors: the metre, which variably constrains the number of simultaneous note onsets on and between the different beats in different sections of the piece, and the durations over which notes of different loudness can be sustained with one stroke.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B71Xr0XqCkE

https://www.patreon.com/danieldeckner",

"content": "In this miniature, two sentences – which interlock to form a third one – are sung at the same time. In every section two (or, in the penultimate one, three) words are sounded phoneme by phoneme until all their constituent phonemes which can be sung at pitch are heard simultaneously. Related successive phonemes are connected by dissonant intervals, while all other phonemes form consonant harmonies. The voices do not sing in separate layers, but often share phonemes, dynamics, registers (and therefore timbre) and rhythms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN298S6Jm0Y

https://www.patreon.com/danieldeckner",

Every aspect of every note is governed by what has sounded immediately before it and/or is sounding simultaneously with it.
