Would we miss it, if it wasn’t there? Would we notice?<br /><br />Millions of migratory birds fly from Australasia to the Arctic to breed annually - a round trip of up to 26,000 kilometres. They fly for thousands of k’s without stopping to rest, just half their brain goes to sleep as they fly. But they must make some stops on their journey to rest and refuel, and now with more and more of the wetlands on their route being ‘reclaimed’ (eg seawalls being built in China and South Korea) the birds can no longer stop - so they fly on exhausted and many just don’t make it. We think, because we still see and hear birds, that it’s ok - they’re still around. Would we miss it, if it wasn’t there? Would we notice?\n\nMillions of migratory birds fly from Australasia to the Arctic to breed annually - a round trip of up to 26,000 kilometres. They fly for thousands of k’s without stopping to rest, just half their brain goes to sleep as they fly. But they must make some stops on their journey to rest and refuel, and now with more and more of the wetlands on their route being ‘reclaimed’ (eg seawalls being built in China and South Korea) the birds can no longer stop - so they fly on exhausted and many just don’t make it.
