"content": "You’re half right. I’m a carpenter and have remodelled 100+ houses built from 1864-today all over the country. Softwoods (conifer: spruce/pine/fir - aka SPF) are and have always been used as structural building material (studs/beams/joists/rafters).<br />Hardwoods (deciduous: oak/walnut/maple/chestnut/cherry/etc) are and have always been used to build whatever is to be used inside said structure (chairs/tables/cabinets/shelves/beds,etc)<br />The inherent characteristics are for the most part, mutually exclusive. <br />Softwoods grow faster which makes the wood less dense. With that they have a much higher capacity to absorb moisture. This gives the wood more flexibility therefore the optimal material to bear weight without snapping/shearing/racking). <br />Hardwoods grow at a far slower rate which increases the density of material greatly with wide variability respective to species. Less inherent moisture in hardwoods give it the integrity to handle being cut, shaped and joined together with less splitting, compression and so on. <br />Engineered materials have been invented and put into use to compensate for the exhaustion of building material resources. Things such as plywood, cardboard, laminated beams, oriented strand board, drywall/Sheetrock, etc and more efficient and effective building materials and systems are being invented by the day to accommodate today’s attention to environmentalism and ecology. <br />I hope that answers your question.",

"content": "Freehand thoughts: <br />Individual responsibility is a Team Problem:<br /><br />Its abominably frustrating and boner-losingly disappointing being a witness to the slow cannibalism of western society... <br />Nobody alive today could say they haven't been effected by the progressive regression of the last 20 years. <br />Every conceivable industry is saturated in corruption. <br />All human political systems are intrinsically flawed. <br />The consumer market is permanently wet heaving an endless supply of vacuous products and maliciously parasitic enterprise (I'm looking at you financial/insurance/advertising/fashion industry). <br />I'm sure you and I both have plenty more, but I'll cut it off at one last greasy point before I inadvertently bring George Carlin back from the dead...<br />The most passively poisonous part about this cowshit patte, is that it's eased down our throats with everybody's egregiously irrational behaviour and shitty, deconstructive attitude. Left unchecked, the inability to accept, process and UTILIZE criticism is and will be our final downfall as a whole. I understand that gravitating towards others of the same opinion is a primal defence mechanism, but the polarization it's caused is now the problem. No problems of any platform can be solved when the problem is we've forgotten how to solve problems. <br />For those of you that made it this far... Your attention span, sadly, is above average. I'll let you draw your own conclusions from what points I have (hopefully) made concisely apparent... without sounding too condescending or preachy.
