There is an ancient Chinese curse that goes, “May you live in interesting times.” The implication being that interesting times are bad times. That makes sense because uneventful times are usually peaceful and tranquil. You’ve probably heard the saying, “No news is good news.” It’s the same idea. You will never see a newspaper headline that says, “Everything is fine, and nothing bad happened today.” The opposite is true, the more horrific the tragedy, the more prominent the headline. In the newspaper business they have an old saying that goes, “If it bleeds, it leads.” Well, if you are like me, you probably think that the times that we live in are plenty interesting enough, and hoping that they don’t get any more interesting. The good news for us is that no matter how interesting the times that we live in are, our God is in control, and we can be confident through any circumstances. Our text for today reminds us that God is always upholding His people. "content": "Dear Friends,<br /><br />Act 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. <br /><br />There is a natural excitement that accompanies hearing the truth of the Gospel for the first time. When people come to the realization that they have a need, and that there is a void in the heart, they get excited when they encounter that message that meets the need, and fills the void. In our text for today, Paul and Barnabas were preaching at Antioch in Pisidia, not to be confused with the other Antioch mentioned in chapter eleven. Paul and Barnabas went to the Jewish synagogue in Pisidian Antioch, and preached the Gospel firstly to the Jews. Upon hearing about this message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the gentiles asked Paul and Barnabas to preach this same message to them.<br /><br />Act 13:42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. <br /><br />Because people were excited about the opportunity to hear the truth, almost the whole city showed up to hear Paul and Barnabas speak, as we already read in our text for today. Tomorrow is Sunday and we will have an opportunity to go to church. There we can hear about the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Are we as excited as the gentiles in Pisidian Antioch? Do you think that the whole town will show up? People nowadays seem to take the Good News for granted. Many people seem to think, “Oh, I’ll respond someday”. Someday might never come. Besides that, the truth of the Gospel fills the void in the human heart in the here and the now. That is the abundant life the accompanies the Christian faith.<br /><br />Jhn 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. <br /><br />Do not miss out on the abundant life, and the joy and fulfillment that accompanies the Christian life.
