This is the popular image of the can-do dogged spirit of London & the rest of the UK during world war 2, a nation proudly thumbing it's nose at an often overwhelming enemy which sought to break it. It's burned into our national psyche & is one of the few universal cultural touchstones for an increasingly atomised British public. The finest hour of a great generation working selflessly for their mutual survival, an aspect of national identity that has survived the onslaught of multiculturalism and the mantra of \"there's no such thing as native British culture.\"

This powerful echo of a shared sense of duty is what has been tapped into to help keep the British public from breaking the coronavirus lockdown, but where the Blitz was about not succumbing to fear in the face of a tangible enemy this bastardization of its spirit is about enforcing mutual fear & compliance in the face of an invisible one. Whereas the blitz was about helping your neighbour, the spirit of lockdown is about reporting them for the most minor infraction. Self reliance has been replaced with state deference. It's a twisting of everything seen as good & mild mannered about an almost mythical old England long relegated to memory. The spirit of lockdown portrays living a normal life as an act of national betrayal & debate about the negative effects of lockdowns as the subversive rhetoric of a traitor. It's painfully obvious with some of the largest exemptions being placed on business/ political airtravel, board meetings, pheasant hunts & caufeted driving that some people are more equal than others. \"We're all in this together\"except the global & technocrat elites, the people who put us in this situation, they're allowed to maintain normality of course. They're too important.

I'm reminded of a British animated film from the 1980s called \"When the Wind Blows.\" It follows the story of an elderly couple living in a rural cottage who get the \"three minute warning\" of a nuclear blast. They try to use their memorise of the blitz to see them through the bomb & it's aftermath but their efforts of a home made bomb shelter are woefully inadequate as they fall victim to nuclear fallout waiting for the government to rescue them. It's a depressing film with a bleak outlook but it's message is simple: in a modern disaster there is little individuals can do.

If the virus was as deadly & virulent as we'd initially been led to believe then we'd all be dead by now. House and kitten minding for a friend who lives very close to Ferndale National Park.\n\nI hope to spend most mornings walking along the trails there. Would love some light rain, fog and mist, but it's not likely to happen in the middle of summer. So I hope to capture some details of the beautiful mosses and old stumps along the river to share with you on my return. \n\nI'll be here at MINDS a little, but want to use the opportunity to devote more time to my drawing. \n\nBecause I won't be online much for the next two weeks, I decided to postpone the opening of 'Original Drawing' until sometime around:\n\n21: 2: 21 \n\nIf you would like to contribute to the Opening of 'Original Drawing' please keep this date in mind. \n\nTake care everyone. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎\n\n#myphoto #nature #naturephotography #originaldrawing #sydney", "mediaType": "text/plain" } }, "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1204402973469028352/activity", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/877727981148053519", "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/followers" ] }, { "type": "Create", "actor": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "object": { "type": "Note", "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087341124279054336", "attributedTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "content": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087341124279054336", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/followers", "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/100000000000091314" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087341124279054336", "published": "2020-03-19T11:45:25+00:00", "inReplyTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/100000000000091314/entities/urn:activity:1087026390041960448", "source": { "content": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087341124279054336", "mediaType": "text/plain" } }, "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087341124279054336/activity" }, { "type": "Create", "actor": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "object": { "type": "Note", "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087337422521167872", "attributedTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "content": ":)", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/followers", "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/598683228282302479" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087337422521167872", "published": "2020-03-19T11:30:43+00:00", "inReplyTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/598683228282302479/entities/urn:activity:1087155154318020608", "source": { "content": ":)", "mediaType": "text/plain" } }, "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087337422521167872/activity" }, { "type": "Create", "actor": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "object": { "type": "Note", "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087334034038435840", "attributedTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "content": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087334034038435840", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087334034038435840", "published": "2020-03-19T11:17:14+00:00", "source": { "content": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1087334034038435840", "mediaType": "text/plain" } }, "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087334034038435840/activity" }, { "type": "Create", "actor": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "object": { "type": "Note", "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035/entities/urn:activity:1087332485045219328", "attributedTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/944238525606273035", "content": "Hello from coronavirus-preoccupied UK.
