"content": "I have been out of pocket for a few weeks. I got caught up in one of the most dreaded homeowner issues...a slab leak. Of course the leak was located in a the wall with a beam. So, I had someone up top guiding a drill being applied under the slab. The excavation crew burrowed a tunnel under my slab. They must have pulled 10 cubic yards out from under the house. The hole was big enough that a 6'2\"-ish plumber could crawl in, with his equipment. Here is a shot of the clay pile they dug out.<br /><br />Ultimately, it looks like a crap extrusion of a hot water pipe. There was a visible pin hole with no mechanical deformation. There was no crease, no puncture...just a clean circular pin hole. Near as I can guess there was a lesser metal inclusion that must have corroded out of the sidewall of the pipe. They didn't even need a bubble test to find the leak.<br /><br />Now, it's time to rip out hand scraped hard wood floors until we find dry sub floor.",

"content": "Here is a picture of my biggest personal construction project. A few years ago, I had a couple of folks help me build a roughly 40'x20' deck cover, over my 50'x25' deck. We could have gotten it done more quickly but I only took a couple of full days and a couple of half days off. <br /><br />Key features: cedar posts, cedar fascia, ledger board tie in to my brick wall, metal roofing...<br /><br />My biggest regret was that we built it intending for an under side cover. I wish I had built it in an open rafter style. <br /><br />Of course, I underplay the help I got. One of my 2 guys was a brick expert and the other was a multi-decade experienced foundation to roof construction guy. She used our garden grown peppers and tomatoes, to fill this 26 quart reducing pot to roughly the 3/4 mark. This shot is a veggie base, where she cooked the meat separately. I think I prefer the meat slow cooked in, from a flavor \"depth\" perspective. Separating the 2 allows for a more versatile red sauce, though.<br /><br />She cooks all of our high volume sauces and stocks the old fashioned way, slow cooked over multiple days. They connected semi-flexible tubing and used it as an additional frame for translucent cover cloth. I wish I had gotten a picture of the healthy broccoli plants, inside, indicating the cloth is transmitting sufficient light through the cover cloth. We didn't have the bandwidth to individually wrap the tiny tomatoes, so these are just poured on top of one another. We stick ripening bananas on top of each one. We have our littlest kid-let sift and pick out the ripe tomatoes and purge any that went too far.<br /><br />At some point, we will have some percent that just don't ripen. "content": "In this shot, we can see an example of how tomatoes can be like weeds. While we've been weeding the garden, left over from my West Taiwan Flu phase, we've only weeded the beds. The next phase will be to address tomato and asparagus overgrowth, where the desired plants are out of control.<br /><br />In this shot, we have a mix of desired tomatoes and \"volunteers\".
