There's a good case for direct incitement to violence being a crime. I also think 'truth' in speech is hugely important and have no problems with people being able to sue for liable, slander or defamation.<br />That said I certainly don't think \"hate speech\" should be a thing and have mourned the introduction of hate speech laws as they have become increasingly popular in places like the UK and Australia. Who gets to dictate what classes as hate speech and what doesn't? Anyone willing to appoint themselves arbiter of what people can & can't say I'd deem unsuitable for the task, if for no other reason than their willingness to do it.<br />The censor ship in big tech and the collusion of big tech and government is all rather disturbing. Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC's) are just around the corner. The US, UK, Australia, China, the EU etc are all experimenting with their own CBDC. Unlike crypto, which is decentralised in nature, governments and central banks will be able to use CDBC's to control their populations to a degree which is almost unimaginable today. <br />Unemployed - your CBDC dole money will only be spendable on what the government wants you to spend it on. <br />Banned from driving? - you may be literally unable to spend your CDBC dollars on a vehicle, insurance or fuel.<br />Need a beer? You're not getting any until you pay your alimony or fines.<br />Political dissident - no plane flights or train rides can be bought with your money.<br />The list of potential ways to control people appears practially limitless.<br />Programable money controlled by government represents power & control irresistible to the powers that be. Governments won't be able to help themselves (assuming for one minute they'd want to).<br />Our only hope of avoiding a truly nightmarish, techno totalitarian future (think China but on steroids) is, I believe, the mass adoption of open, decentralised crypto currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum.
