It was a blessing to edit and introduce this volume of seminal essays along with never-previously published pieces, amounting to reflective inspiring, wide-ranging record of Manly Hall's contemplations and exhortations of The Season in our lives. The Meanings of Christmas joins other new volumes as part of the new Signature Series of Manly Hall's writings, newly collected and introduced and many pieces newly published. David Orr created the stunning cover art work for each volume. Hall for a new volume as part of the Signature Series published by MRS. The Meanings of Christmas includes both seminal and never before published writings spanning six decades, the 1920s to 1980s. Mr. Hall was a genius, and his wide-ranging writings on Solstice, Christmas, New Year celebrations are, for the reader, an encounter with wisdom, encouragement, love and joy. The Meanings of Christmas is available on the PRS website and at the PRS bookstore. <br /><br /><br />All proceeds go to the funding of the Philosophical Research Society, founded in 1934 by Mr. Hall in Los Angeles as an inclusive gathering place and sharing space of wisdom-seeking and wisdom-sharing for seekers from all backgrounds, all beliefs, all faiths, all practices, all myths, all mysteries, all over the world.<br /><br /><br />Thank you to PRS and Dr. Greg Salyer for the honor of working with Mr. Hall's words, born from his joyful heart, inspired spirit, and years of reflection, in the Meanings of Christmas. The celebration is held over five days from January 8th to the 12th. <br /><br />\"Toka\" means the tenth day, and Ebisu is the god of good fortune and prosperity. Though centered on January 10th, this festival lasts for five days from the 8th until the 12th. During this time, thousands of visitors crowd into Ebisu Shrine to conduct a simple prayer ritual for ongoing success in their work and business.<br /><br />\"Kagura\" means god-entertainment is a specific type of Shinto ritual ceremonial dance. One primary function of Kagura is purifying and shaking the spirit involving a procession-trance process. Throughout the festival, shrine maidens perform a ritual dance. This simple dance to pipe and drum has its roots in ancient shamanic rites held to summon the gods. At Ebisu Festival it is performed to purify and bless the lucky branches of bamboo grass. <br /><br />Ebisu is one of the Shichifukujin, the Seven Lucky Gods of Japanese folklore, traditionally associated with the New Year. He is, however, the only one of these gods whose story is homegrown Japanese. The other six gods all originate from China and India. He is always shown laughing, and he often holds a rod and fish, usually a red bream associated with celebration. The story of Ebisu is incredibly inspiring, as he wasn't born lucky, and he overcame much hardship to become one of Japan's most popular gods.",
