I conducted, what I believe, was one of the best speech performances I have ever given in my two year speaking career, even as far as my Anarchapulco talks are concerned.<br /><br />Without any kind of visual aid, I attempted to poetically inspire people to awaken to their nature as a human beings. It is through this conduit of awakening that we discover our full anarchist voice. It is through the powers of storytelling, psychedelic experimentation, and technological evolution that we will prevail as anarchists in order to awaken and enliven the world. The talk was well received, and I expect to give varying iterations of this speech in the future.<br /><br />While in Acapulco, I also spoke on the problems of psychiatry at Macey Tomlin's event called AnarchAWAKENing. This talk was also good, although it was more challenging to deliver. It's difficult to condense a whole talk on the war on healing into a 30 minute gig. Nonetheless, her event was nicely put together and I hope to help her build it up in the future. It's extremely important that we have more events based around anarchic healing and self-therapy.<br /><br />I offer my love to all of our anarchist friends, and hope that our paths cross again soon. They may work temporarily and in the short term. However, long term studies have demonstrated these drugs cause the symptoms they are trying to mitigate. <br /><br />Why does this happen?<br /><br />When drugs like SSRI antidepressants are present in the system for an extended period of time, the brain compensates for their existence. This means the brain works around the SSRI's, and then the brain changes as a result. This has been shown to exacerbate the depressive symptoms in the individual. Robert Whitaker referred to this effect as tardive dysphoria, and it has been written about quite extensively. ( I will provide a link in the comments section below)<br /><br />What's my point? <br /><br />Don't be duped into believing antidepressants are a panacea for depression or other mental health condition. The reality is that most people suffer from problems of living and strained relationships. <br /><br />In my opinion, the cure for depression is more human connection, intimacy, and love for life. If we can discover what really drives us and brings us passion, we can overcome any depressive bout. The pills and potions that mainstream psychiatry prescribes only helps to further deaden us; they sap us of our vital nature. <br /><br />In my experience, depression is not a disease modality. It's not a \"chemical imbalance.\" It's a psychological incursion of latent trauma and alienation. To combat it, we must begin working toward self-healing and discovering love. If we fail, the depression, ennui, and self-destructive tendencies will overtake us. It takes patience, focus, and the desire to connect with the other. I am imperfect myself, especially in online chat. A lot of times I want to force folks to understand my perspective, and I forget about the idea of surveying the other person's needs.<br /><br />In any type of communication, if we are to succeed at providing our point of view, we must understand what the other person wants. This is the whole purpose behind nonviolent communication.<br /><br />Nonviolent communication was developed by Marshall Rosenberg to resolve problems in a diplomatic fashion. His method worked wonders, and it was even field tested in times of war.
