Stephen went on to preach Jesus Christ to the leaders of the Jewish nation/church, which resulted in his death. Jesus, as the Messiah (fulfilled in scripture) had the authority to proclaim a new covenant with God. Not one that ended with Moses and the Law, but built on the Law and His own sacrifice providing the prophesized pathway to God. The Law never provided a pathway to God, only temporary forgiveness until the Christ arrived. The established Jews had built an enormous structure on the simple and penetrating commands of God given to Moses. The Jews were worshiping their own creation in the complicated Talmud and Mishna, and could not grasp that the Messiah would be humble and kind, bearing the Law by the basic purpose that God intended. Jesus exposed their mistakes, misunderstandings, and outright ulterior motives for power. The truth is rarely greeted with joy, to those who benefit from lies. Considering this dangerous environment (the Sanhedrin had Jesus killed, so why would they not do the same to his followers?); Was Stephen “committed to Jesus”? I think not. Commitment implies an agreement. We don’t have the right or ability to make agreements with God. “Surrender” is a much better term of Stephen’s attitude toward Jesus. Surrender means giving up all title to leadership or independence. It means totally and irrevocably placing your life and actions under the authority of God. This was what Stephen did. He glorified God in this actions and God rewarded Stephen in this world by remembering him as a touchstone forever, and brought him home to dwell with Jesus forever.

Surrender to Jesus.
", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/896187461170896913/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1232115226794504192", "published": "2021-04-22T23:46:00+00:00", "source": { "content": "\"Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people.\nCertain members of the so-called Synagogue of Freedmen, Cyreneans, and Alexandrians, and people from Cilicia and Asia, came forward and debated with Stephen, but they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.\nThen they instigated some men to say, “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”\nThey stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, accosted him, seized him, and brought him before the Sanhedrin.\nThey presented false witnesses who testified,\n“This man never stops saying things against this holy place and the law.\nFor we have heard him claim that this Jesus the Nazorean will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”\nAll those who sat in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.\"\nActs 6:8-15\n \nStephen was “filled with the Spirit” and the debaters could not win against him.
