"content": "I've watched My Hero Academia a few years ago by accident once, it was free on VRV at the time, and immediately got hooked to the show's amazing story in that first season. Becoming a fan of the show I thought, sure I'll go to San Japan (one of those otaku conventions in my town) and check out the cosplays and voice actors. This was the San Japan convention right before the quarantines. One thing I noticed there in the My Hero Academia Q and A was the \"shipping\" questions fans were asking, and the other was questions regarding feeling self-confident or wanting to feel worth something to the world. It felt strange to me that these fans would ask voice actors these kind of questions. Growing up as a young teen once myself, I never seek answers from voice actors, let alone other actors, about something like love and meaning in life. But in the world that encourages social media recognition and individual materialistic \"success\" it seems many young people had turn to fictional heroes longing for the good and supernatural in their own lives. For myself, when I felt lost as a teenage agnostic I had turned towards fictional stories about time travel, hoping for some glimmer of hope that the world could be saved from a sorrowful this-world-only human extinction in the distant future from being consumed by the sun. I'm oversimplifying my past experience of course, my teenage self was a neutral monist who loved reading philosophy and world religions (yes, that makes me a nerd, lol) and my heroes were Socrates, Confucius, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin L King Jr. The My Hero Academia/ Boku no Hero Academia fandom is criticized around the internet for having a toxic online community, a community I don't associate with in the slightest, but the fans I've met in person had many teens who seemed lost, seeking love, and longing to find answers in the world. Perhaps that's just teenagers in general? Maybe, but I don't hear teens ask these kinds of questions to your everyday stranger. I hope the show continues to be enjoyed by people, and that teenagers continue to seeking to find answers in the world, and not just turn to social media and fellow fans to fill that God-shaped hole in their hearts. <br />",
