Mostly wondering if there's a connection to teraphim. (tᵊrāp̄îm)<br /><br />I've also been wondering about the teraphim (strong's H8655 tᵊrāp̄îm) Rachel stole from her father, Labam. <br /><br />The Bible, discusses and condemns the “teraphim” which are household idols. These teraphim idols are mentioned many times in the Bible and in this verse we’re told that they speak iniquity:<br /><br />“For the teraphim speak iniquity, And the diviners see lying visions And tell false dreams; They comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep, They are afflicted, because there is no shepherd.”<br />Zechariah 10:2<br /><br />It’s interesting that the word teraphim is similar to Seraphim, as in the watcher angels who fell, creating the Nephilim giants before the flood. And there’s a connection to the Rephaim giants, from after the flood, as well, as both words, Rephaim and teraphim are rooted in the word rapha, which means to heal.<br /><br />And idols are often associated with demons. <br /><br />“…They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk.” Revelation 9:20<br /><br />This is where it gets really shocking, Folks! If you go outside of the Bible, according to Jewish Rabbinical literature, and the Book of Jasher, the teraphim were actually decapitated human talking heads!<br /><br />“The teraphim were made of the head of a man, a first-born, which, after the man had been slain, was shaved and then salted and spiced. After a golden plate on which magic words were engraved had been placed under the tongue, the mummified head was mounted on the wall, and it spoke to the people.” Targum Pseudo-Jonathan - Genesis 31:19<br /><br />And this practice is discussed again here in Jasher:<br /><br />41 And this is the manner of the images; in taking a man who is the first born and slaying him and taking the hair off his head, and taking salt and salting the head and anointing it in oil, then taking a small tablet of copper or a tablet of gold and writing the name upon it, and placing the tablet under his tongue, and taking the head with the tablet under the tongue and putting it in the house, and lighting up lights before it and bowing down to it.<br /><br />“And at the time when they bow down to it, it speaketh to them in all matters that they ask of it, through the power of the name which is written in it.”<br />Jasher 31:41-42<br /><br />Let me know what you think ...
