His writings are characterized by an unrelenting source of optimism, especially considering his living conditions, and has helped inspired a lot of Vietnamese of the younger generations. In my darkest moments, his writings is a constant source of inspiration, shaping my perspective and cement my conviction against the insidious opinions of nay-sayers.<br />We Vietnamese need leaders that can inspire like him. I wish him all the best in this battle, one that could very well be final, decisive. <br />Win or not, he will definitely be the Nelson Mandela of Vietnam.<br /><br />Thư từ bài viết của chú Thức mình đọc khá nhiều. After the incident, doctors said that he sustained a permanent injury, lost 90% of his physical health and his ability to talk.<br /><br />A neighbor of Thanh, Mr. Dang Van Hien, was recently sentenced to death for killing 3 of the same gangs (in a different incident) when they came to seize his land, showing clear intention to harm his family if he did not yield. Hien initially fled, then turned himself to the government in hope \u001dof extenuation. According to many Vietnamese Lawyers, the maximum punishment in Hien circumstance could only be 7 years in jail. <br /><br />Prior to these incidents, thugs from Long Son Company had been terrorizing the local area for 8 years, in order to scare the farmers away from the land they had spent their youth to cultivate, \u001dturning a swath of primary jungle to arable \u001dsoil. Due to 'external pressure' he could not have any permanent employment and frequently in financial troubles. Recently, his son was diagnosed with an acute problem which, left untreated, could lead to impotency. The money donated to him by a fund dedicated to relieving the suffering of dissidents in VN was confiscated by the police when they searched his house. [2]<br /><br />Below is a post calling for donation from another activist who pledged that he would personally travel to the hospital in another province, on his own expense, to take care of the operation of Hung's son. The donation would only be used to cover medical bills. Dozens of others have pledged to donate.<br /><br />Now, I did not write this in English to widen the reach of call for donation, but to illustrate one in a plethora of ways the government can make life almost unbearable for those who dare to voice their discontent.
