"content": "Moobiepostings 37: The 12 Days of Christmas Eve (2022)<br />I've come to not expect much from Lifetime Christmas movies, but I'm a sucker for Groundhog Day ripoffs, so I decided to give this one a go.<br /><br />Kelsey Grammer plays the grumpy CEO of a failed business, Brian Conway. He's the prototypical Christmas movie grinch - puts work above family, is mean to his employees, the whole thing.<br /><br />He dies in a car accident on Christmas Eve, and he meets Santa. Santa tells him he doesn't know the true meaning of Christmas, and he gets 12 do-overs of Christmas Eve to figure it out.<br /><br />Most of the iterations are boring and long, and the worst part of it is they're interchangeable. I could never tell which do-over it was, because they're almost identical until they're not.<br /><br />The issues he has to fix during the do-overs feel like a far too large burden to place on the back of a single day. He's not going to repair the relationship with his daughter in a single day that he spent a lifetime breaking. And some of the things foisted on him aren't even his problem. For example his daughter wants to have him watch his granddaughter on Christmas Eve, because she's needed to do some surgery. That really isn't his problem or a slight against him if he refuses, she should be looking to the child's father first, not her grandfather.<br /><br />The movie ends with an accounting error: Santa has only given him 11 days, because he counted the first death as one of the 12 do-overs, and it really isn't.<br /><br />So Brian gets an extra day, and while he does do it over in a more positive, Christmassy way, the message is still too vague for me to understand exactly what he's supposed to have learned. \"Be nicer\" I guess?<br /><br />The film felt really long because they didn't follow the Groundhog Day/Edge of Tomorrow style while developing the iterations. In those movies, the first couple of iterations are fairly long-winded, because they want to impress upon you the events of the day. The subsequent ones are fairly quick, making sure to quickly cut past the events that don't change. In The 12 Days of Christmas Eve, they still go through every event, and the events aren't even majorly changed, so it feels incredibly long.<br /><br />It's not the worst Lifetime Christmas movie I've ever seen, but it's far from the best. And of the Groundhog Day ripoffs, it ranks pretty damn low.<br /><br />1/10",
