"content": "23andme pt. 1: Ancestry reporting is cool and all but what is cooler is the health data we get from it. I'll make more posts regarding the health data, But At the most basic level understanding your mitochondrial haplotype is fairly important. For instance european haplotypes are loosely coupled meaning that they are less efficient at making ATP from calories and will generate a ton of heat (Infared light), Where as african haplotypes are tightly coupled meaning with the same caloric input they produce more ATP and less heat. This is the reason why environment and our interaction with it is so important. Various factors come in to play when designing programs around this info: what your haplotype is, what mutations have been passed down from your mothers genetics, what is your light environment like, lifestyle choices etc. When we have an uncoupling of mitochondria we get a shortage of energy production, which in turn mutates mitochondrial DNA which creates an environment that breeds disease and disorder.
