Today, it will be exactly 30 years since the traumatic bomb explosion for which the ANC hails Andrew Zondo as hero.<br /><br />On 23 December 1985, Zondo (a member of the ANC Youth League) placed a bomb in a dustbin at the Wimpy in the Sanlam Shopping Centre. Five people were killed in the explosion, while another 40 were injured. The five deceased included two women and three children (one only a baby) – each and every one a soft target.<br /><br />Irma Bencini (48) was one of the deceased. Her stepdaughter, Debbie Scott, an Amanzimtoti resident, reacted with rage on the name change of this coastal town’s main street:<br /><br />“I remember that day when we were all excitedly preparing for Christmas. I went to the then OK Bazaar near Sanlam Centre and my stepmother said she needed to go into the nearby supermarket. Within a few minutes I heard a loud bang and realised she was in danger.
