(Minds is a little better but twitter is still better set-up to me) Fediverse works best when the local server you are on is active and you share
interests (the more you share the better).

2) Trying to branch out is difficult as you have to navigate a huge feed just to see a few posts that may get you interested. It has a big echo chamber problem + growth problem (a lot of similar instances and hard to get noticed/recruit. And these are not in the hands of the user, they are done by the moderators of the instance.

3) That said, lots of places on it are less censored than here on minds especially around nsfw anime content. If this is something you care about then it is worth investing the time to find and join.

4) Less censored comes
with the expected trade-offs of wading through much more shitposting while not being as good of a place for convos. For all its toxicity, twitter has better quality engagements (for now) and more people are “nice” than on fedi. (loaded and subjective term i know but there isnt a better word to describe it either).

5) It seems to work best as an image board rather than a social network. Really easy to make a fedi acct and only follow bots that post stuff from pixiv and other image hosts and have that be your feed entirely and this works better in for the display in fedi. Minds and Twitter are much better aesthetically so while you can do this on them, they do a better job of generating more engagement on a single post aside from passive consumption (liking/retweeting but no commenting on the posted content itself).

Extra) With regards to NOSTR, so far aside from the difficulty, i dont even like it just having a pure account (ex: astral.nina, iris.to, snort.social) so im unimpressed. Seems really resource intensive and a matter of getting yourself on a good relay in order to network. It made my decent desktop’s fan rev up while also still lagging in browser (Brave). There are a lot of people there but the lag makes it feel only usable in short bursts which is not how youd always use it esp in chat. Many of the sites arent pleasant to navigate/manuever either.
