The shift isn’t necessarily because they’re inherently obsolete, but rather due to evolving user expectations, technological advancements, and persistent issues that these legacy platforms struggle to address effectively. Let’s break this down.
Why Traditional Platforms Like Facebook Are Being Outmoded
Shifting User Expectations: Web 2.0 platforms like Facebook thrived on user-generated content, social connections, and a one-size-fits-all feed. However, users now crave more personalized, interactive, and dynamic experiences—things AI can deliver better through real-time adaptation and predictive algorithms. AI-based platforms can analyze behavior patterns and tailor content with precision, making static news feeds feel outdated.
Innovation Lag: While Facebook has introduced features like Reels and Marketplace, its core model—built around friend networks and chronological or algorithm-driven posts—hasn’t fundamentally changed since the mid-2000s. AI-driven platforms, by contrast, prioritize automation, content creation (e.g., AI-generated posts or art), and decentralized structures (like Bluesky), offering fresh approaches that feel more in tune with today’s tech landscape.
Content Moderation and Censorship Perception: Heavy-handed moderation on platforms like Facebook has fueled frustration. Users often see it as overly restrictive, stifling free expression, or biased due to inconsistent enforcement. AI-based platforms can lean on smarter algorithms to flag content with less human intervention, potentially reducing the \"censorship\" backlash—though they’re not immune to criticism either. The perception of over-moderation pushes some users toward alternatives promising less oversight.
Competition from Agile Newcomers: TikTok’s explosive growth shows how AI-driven content delivery (its \"For You\" algorithm) can outpace traditional platforms in engagement. Similarly, platforms like Discord or even AI-enhanced apps focus on niche communities or real-time interaction, areas where Facebook’s broad, generalized approach struggles to keep up.
Trust Erosion: Scandals like Cambridge Analytica and misinformation spread have damaged Facebook’s reputation. Users and advertisers question its reliability, while AI-based platforms—especially those touting transparency or decentralization—position themselves as cleaner alternatives, even if they’re not flawless.
So, it’s not just stagnation or censorship—it’s a mix of slow evolution, outdated frameworks, and failure to fully meet modern demands that make Web 2.0 giants look like they’re losing ground to AI-driven innovation.
Why Facebook Specifically Struggles with Low User Engagement and Scammers
Facebook’s challenges with low user engagement and a proliferation of scammers stem from its design, scale, and operational priorities. Here’s the deeper dive:
Low User Engagement
Algorithm Fatigue: Facebook’s algorithm has shifted to prioritize \"meaningful interactions\" (e.g., from friends and family) over brand or public content, throttling organic reach for pages. This leaves businesses and creators fighting for visibility, often resorting to paid ads, while regular users see less diverse content, reducing their incentive to interact. Engagement rates hover around a measly 0.015% for brands, per some studies, compared to higher rates on platforms like Instagram or TikTok.
Aging User Base: Younger users (Gen Z, teens) increasingly see Facebook as \"old school,\" flocking to TikTok, Snapchat, or gaming platforms like Roblox for social interaction. Facebook’s audience skews older—Millennials and above—which limits its appeal to trendsetters driving online culture. Time spent on the platform (about 30 minutes daily in the U.S.) also lags behind competitors like TikTok.
Content Overload: With billions of posts daily, the feed feels cluttered. Users scroll past repetitive or low-quality content, disengaging unless something truly grabs them—like video, which gets 0.12% engagement versus 0.07% for links. Yet, even here, Facebook plays catch-up to short-form video pioneers.
Ad Saturation: Heavy reliance on ads alienates users. When every other post is sponsored, it disrupts the social experience, pushing people to platforms with subtler monetization or none at all.
Prevalence of Scammers
Massive Scale, Weak Oversight: With over 3 billion monthly active users, Facebook is a prime target for scammers. Despite removing over a billion fake accounts quarterly, the sheer volume overwhelms moderation efforts. Scammers exploit lax verification, creating fake profiles or pages to peddle scams (e.g., phishing, fake giveaways).
Marketplace and Groups: Features like Marketplace and private groups, while useful, are scammer havens. Minimal vetting lets fraudsters list nonexistent products or run Ponzi schemes under the radar. The decentralized nature of these spaces makes policing harder.
Ad Loopholes: Scammers sneak through Facebook’s ad platform by mimicking legit businesses or using cloaking techniques to hide shady landing pages. Even with AI filters, enforcement is reactive, not preventive, and legit advertisers suffer from the fallout (e.g., ad distrust).
Profit-Driven Blind Spots: Facebook’s business model thrives on engagement and ad revenue, not user safety. Critics argue this incentivizes keeping questionable accounts active as long as they boost metrics, leaving scammers room to operate until reported.
In short, Facebook’s low engagement reflects a platform stretched thin—too big to innovate quickly, too ad-focused to prioritize user experience, and too entrenched to pivot fully. Scammers exploit these cracks, thriving in a system where scale outpaces control. AI-based platforms, while not immune to similar issues, promise tighter integration of smart moderation and user-centric design, which could explain their rising appeal. Whether they deliver remains to be seen—Facebook’s struggles don’t guarantee their success. Nobody else would cite a Scientologist hardline loser who raises millions of dollars for the pedophile-ring enabling, human-trafficking, family-destroying, and advocating 'cruel and unusual punishment' Cult of Scientology. Let me explain that last bit, as the founder of Scientology was L Ron Hubbard, who in his 1960's interview with the BBC, stated or implied that all criminals need to be run out on TR-45. TR-45 is a reference to a .45 caliber gun. Criminals run out via drill TR-45 would be advocating extremist capital-punishment by the state (e.g. A world WITHOUT crime, advocating draconian execution of ALL criminals).

It should be noted that Trump has the tyrannical viewpoint of also advocating Capital Punishment of criminals for drug offenses, the same drugs that are now legalized in many states yet illegal federally. This would be an absolute failed policy, given that I totally understand his opinion that China does it and it got rid of their Opium Crisis and he would thus like it to be applied to the US fentanyl crisis. The problem is that Fentanyl is legal for medical purposes, and would potentially end up with a situation where the state executes innocent people, potentially doctors, for 'peddling narcotics' in a legal gray zone. I do not advocate killing of America's highly skilled, highly educated, PhD holders due to errors of Justice. Let's get this straight, the state does not issue Justice fairly or evenly or even remotely accurately or efficiently, do not give them a tool they will misuse like expanded Capital Punishment (something which violates the 8th Amendment in the Bill of Rights under the United States Constitution) The US Constitution is a document that predates Trump for a reason, more intelligent people like Alexander Hamilton and James Madison designed it to prevent tyranny in its leaders, many of the Masons, who signed the Constitution as their acquiescence and acknowledgement to also prevent themselves, who would soon hold office in an administration or legislature under this Constitution, and future Presidents from becoming Tyrants or Dictators like the British Crown was at the time. I don't support the Cult of Scientology doing it, nor would I support the current President going against the Constitution on provisions provided to protect the citizens of the nation in which we exist under, it's laws, it's morals, and it's ethical behavior. Exile them to a penal colony in Alaska, take them out of the hood, put them into a concentration camp, but don't execute, Mr. President. #scientology #grantcardone #historylesson
https://www.benzinga.com/startups/25/03/44082721/grant-cardone-trumps-gold-card-is-a-smart-way-to-attract-money-and-bring-in-more-conservative-voters", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/715165823911600131/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1743745833335001088", "published": "2025-03-04T19:43:23+00:00", "source": { "content": "Ok, I don't care about your position on Trump's Gold card.
