"content": "Jordan Peterson makes an incredibly important point when he talks about empathy and compassion. \"It's compassion that the mother grizzly bear feels when she eats you because you got in the way of her cub.\" <br /><br />He mentions that compassion is derived from the mother-child bond. This has very important implications, because the mother divides the world into crying babies (prey) and predators. <br /><br />When someone is telling you \"just have empathy\" what they are telling you is to identify the predator that they see. They are saying to you \"accept who my enemies are as your enemies\". This can be very manipulative when told to males in particular I think; I don't think there's much denying that male seek, in general, to embody the benevolent patriarch model of a man - derived from the father. This is because this is what women, broadly speaking, find attractive. The benevolent patriarch is fiercely loyal, and this is brutal upon the enemies of those he cares about. Empathy and compassion can so easily lead to violence from this manipulation. <br /><br />When someone asks you to \"have some empathy\" they may be trying to weaponize you against their enemies, especially if the dynamic is such that \"Identify my predators as your enemies, or you are my predator.\"<br /><br /><br />EDIT: This works in the context of Intersectional Feminism really well, as well as Marxism. There may be other contexts that this is sufficient in too, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. This can break down in other contexts, be wary of that.",
