"content": "So yesterday I posted a pic to Twitter talking about how with all of the letters added to LGBT the one letter that would never be added is S for straight. The response as you can imagine was a lot bigger then I expected, as I am a nobody on Twitter it was a tad overwhelming to say the least.

The thing that was quite amusing to me was how many comments implied I was straight, I am gay myself with a bf granted I don't talk about it unless it is relevant. I explained further that for example I see things like saying all straight people are homophobic by default is like saying all gays are sinners by default. I also elaborated on how I see it as unfair to tell one group they can feel proud over something but another group cannot.

The collective however was not pleased many saying that LGBT people should feel pride as they put themselves at risk by coming out. I can only speak from a western sense and I admit there are problems for the LGBT community in other nations. However to imply that all over the place LGBT people are being attacked is insane. Cases in the US (excluding Orlando) have been going down to the point where there are very few that occur. While these are unacceptable they are in no way representative of society as a whole. Mainstream society bends over backwards to be accepting to LGBT people and make us feel included. So by this point while yes coming out in a conservative household is still risky, as a whole society does not shame us anymore. Plus I also got comments of me trying to \"All Lives Matter\" LGBT which goes to show the caliber of many of the replies. That a notion of true equality and treating everyone the same is considered something to be mocked.

Deep down I don't take pride in things like my sexuality, skin color, gender, ext as they are things I don't control. I would much rather take pride in my work, however I still believe that if we are going to feel pride in these things it must be expanded to everyone. Anyway that is it for this little ramble thanks for reading.",
