Nothing fancy. Crazy hours, little pay, no prospects, but, I can pay my bills, buy food, and have a little bit extra left to play with. So, a pretty safe position. Which I like. Unfortunately, the hours I work leave me little free time, just enough to get some sleep, prepare for the next shift, and a few hours to do whatever I want. And what I want, most of the time, is to do nothing. This has been going on for a couple years now. I know the main reason nothing's changed is because I'm lazy and unmotivated, but that's not the story.
Anyway, since I haven't been exactly kind to myself, and taking good care of my health, naturally, it has started to decline. Which sucks. So, one time at work, there was some kind of conversation with a coworker of mine about personal and financial responsibility. She was telling me about how her son had broken his new phone. I remarked, that I've never been able to understand how can people be so careless with things they've paid money for. Growing up, I never had a lot of money. I started doing summer jobs when I was 10 years old, so, money, and financial stability is extremely important to me. So, everything I've ever bought with my hard earned money, I've taken care about to the best of my ability. I always make sure to pay my bills for the services I use, and take good care of my phone, my PC, fridge, washing machine, everything.
And then a thought hit me...
Yeah, but what about taking care of yourself? You bought that nice PC, and have been taking good care of it, but what about your own body? Why is your phone more important than your health?
That's when I understood something about me. Money has become so important to me, that everything I've bought or pay for is more important to me than my own body. WHICH I GOT FOR FREE. I haven't been taking care of myself, because, untill now, there has been no finansial incentive to do that. That was quite the eye-opener.
Now that, unfortunately, I do have to invest in my health, I sincerely hope I'll take better care of myself in the future.", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/678304657612742674/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/868874002510573568", "published": "2018-07-25T15:15:05+00:00", "source": { "content": "A while back, while thinking about my declining physical health, I came to an interesting realization.\nBut first, some preface...I work as a security guard. Custom made, pure white background with a minimalistic credit card design. So that the sleeve looks like a credit card. And it would be a card from the International Bank of White Privilege. No personal ID on the sleeve, of course, gotta keep the mysterious white supremacy anonymous. The card holder ID would be SWP#00001, #00002 and so on. SWP being Straight White Person. It would be awesome if you could pay for stuff without taking the sleeve off, but I think that's not possible.
