In the words of more than one progressive, they believe they are elected to LEAD us forward into something we dirty masses aren't yet ready to embrace.<br /><br />In other words, the Ds (and I'll admit I'm using the loudest faction to represent the party here.. not your general run-of-the-mill centrist D) aren't interested in being representatives OF the people... they are interested in remaking society, even if they have to drag us all along kicking and screaming to do it.<br /><br />That faction doesn't give a crap if they were required to use cheating, fraud, etc etc to win, because the goal was always just TO WIN. <br /><br />And sure: maybe the Rs in politics fit this mold, too. Power politics is undoubtedly not confined to only one side. Attempting to treat one is not, in fact, going to fix the other (it may alleviate some symptoms, yes, but by no means all). <br /> In the case of SRS, if the root problem is some issue with body image that is entirely a brain-based problem, no amount of changing that person's physical appearance is actually going to correct the issue at hand. The problem isn't one easily fixed by correcting a mismatch precisely because it is a mental health issue - or numerous ones - (regardless of physical realities) to begin with.<br /><br />This is, in fact, one of the things I most fear with regard to moving mental health issues into the 'just a normal variation' category: if you pretend it's all normal, people ARE going to suffer. And if you aren't willing to be precise (even if the sufferer doesn't like it) then you are going to miss the obvious: a brain-based dysfunction can't be fixed by snapping your fingers and telling that person that, indeed, Unicorns do exist and they just happen to be one.<br /><br /><br />I am somewhat concerned that the loud factions of society will take this up as yet one more stick to beat the rest of us with (see! You guys are so awful even surgery can't make up for it!), but time will tell. Chances are better they'll ignore this altogether and just keep on telling us 'the science proves it!' even when it clearly doesn't.<br /><br />And a note here: I'm not against SRS for adults. I'm for any treatment options that will, on an individual level, allow someone for a better quality of life, even in the case where that one treatment option must still include additional support. But there is no magic pill and not every option is going to be the right choice for everyone. You know, all those people they are convinced won't or don't vote but are SURELY super secret progressives at heart.<br /><br />I've even heard Tim Pool make the case that this will help get younger people to vote, which he thinks is a mixed bag (apparently Tim thinks parents will tell their kids how to vote? idk).<br /><br />But.<br /><br />Here's the thing.<br /><br />There are THREE eligible aged voters in my house.<br /><br />Three.<br /><br />And if the goal is to get the one most likely to vote Prog.. well that person got nothing in the mail.<br /><br />That's not a surprise: he hasn't registered to vote and hasn't opted to vote yet. But he is a registered American citizen, was counted on the last census and every tax filing we've ever made. He's got a paper trail and a SS#, had the same address since he was 4.. he's undoubtedly known of by whatever tabs they keep on us at the Federal level. That was already an issue here back when The Wonder Dog was brought home (and my very FIRST option was a nice mixed-breed, so you can see what kind of standards I was after there), and that was back before those same rescue facilities started referring to the dogs as 'stock' and 'inventory.' I didn't necessarily WANT a purebred.. but there ya go.<br /><br />The true pitfalls are yet to be felt though: dogs with serious problem behaviors have had the benefit of a solid pack structure for months. The bets are off when those same families expect Fifi or Fido to go it alone for 8hrs out of the day. <br /><br />Ahh well.. Must be my imagination, and COULDN'T POSSIBLY be that they are continuing to dole out crap we knew back in Feb/March in teeny tiny bite sized bits...<br /><br />Next they'll let us know that all vax trials are a waste of time and t-shirt masks are of questionable value. I promise to pretend to be shocked =P<br /><br />(and if you aren't interested in the article or the attached study, median age of patients was 47, heart was tested 2mos+ post-covid. Only involved 100 patients, though.)<br /><br />P.S. I'd love to share some positive links about the findings on Hydroxy, but the biggest tech companies are working hard scrubbing that info - again... talked about in what? March? - from the internet as 'totally fake news.'
