By creating food systems based on the wisdom of nature, there is less need for human maintenance and inputs. Less maintenance and inputs mean more time and money for the gardener/farmer. Healthy forests create an abundance of food, improve air quality, are home to countless critters, and thrive despite weather extremes. No one had to plant, weed, fertilize, spray, or water the forests, since they self-regulate and self-replicate. The solution to the energy and food crisis, lies in the natural order found within healthy ecosystems. All mature ecosystems have something in common. They depend on perennial plants to perform the ecosystem's functions. They work together to create biodiversity, resiliency, and abundance. Bordering Lusk Creek Wilderness in the Shawnee National forest of Southeastern Illinois, we strive to blend human needs with the natural world, to create a symbiotic cooperation with the land, water, and elements of the wild, to ensure a harmonious human establishment, using both ancient ways and new technologies, in our endeavor to create a more just and sustainable future for both people and planet. We believe that permaculture and restorative agriculture, along with sustainable living and restorative technologies, can heal what has been broken in the natural world. Interwoven offers internships, classes, workshops and events based around permaculture, earth skills, rehabilitating damaged landscapes, increasing soil quality, and building farm-based businesses. The model we are creating at Interwoven is designed to be replicated, and, as we grow and learn, we look forward to sharing the design and implementation with willing minds. We intend to provide a source of healthy permaculture grown foods, educational services, and interactive experiences. ",
