"content": "One last mouse.<br /><br />Tuesday night I experienced kind of a minor miracle. I was a mess, very upset after learning my cat would be dead in less than a few weeks. I didn't sleep monday night and tuesday night wasn't looking good either. <br />I had been talking to Emerson a lot. telling him stories. about how I first met him. The quirky things he did as a kitten. how good he was at catching mice. And how impressed I was with him and Knightley, even if their glory days were behind them. <br /><br />that night. I heard a commotion in the hallway. the cats were running around, and when I looked, they were both leaning way over, toward each other with their heads touching and one of them growling. This was weird. <br /><br />I turned on the hall light so I could see better, and a small dark shape whipped toward the bathroom door, away from the cats. It was a black and white mouse. <br /><br />Knightley gave chase, beat it up (it was peppered with blood), it got away from him for a second, running toward me, and my cat caught it. <br />My old, cancer-ridden, fatigued cat, who had been having trouble walking for a couple of weeks now. Just whipped the thing up smacked it a few times, held it with his paw, and started chewing on it. <br /><br />This was incredible. seeing the two of them hunting together one last time. Seeing Emerson alive and active one last time. Engaged in one of his favorite pastimes (i.e. murder). Grizzly perhaps, but this was very uplifting. I am so grateful it happened, and they got to experience this, and I got to witness it, and even snap a blurry photo. <br /><br />And the timing was nothing short of impossibly good. Now, we haven't seen any sign of mice in over a year. and the next day, Emerson was just too weak and clumsy to pull something like this off. <br /><br />Not obvious from the angle, but, pictured below is my cat holding a mouse in his paw while chewing on it like it was a Slimjim.",

Made by the CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) it has realistic weight and proportions. They are impossible to find as they no longer make them. <br /><br />He loved it instantly. He threw it around, pounced on it, played with it endlessly. He would pick it up, run to the top of the staircase (at the old MLK house), and throw it down the stairs so he could chase after it as it tumbled down the stairs. Over and over again. <br /><br />Noel dubbed the toy mouse a \"meowse\". His enthusiasm for the meowse waxed and wanned over time, but never diminished entirely. <br />Eleven years later, while sick and dying, he still finds solace in an 11-year old meowse.
