I posted a message about six months ago, though I doubt you saw it; it's worth a read though. The fediverse is a vibrant wild-west-esque federation of communities, some you might not like and some you might like, but more than that it is a thriving network, exploding with sites like poa.st and freeatlantis.com and misskey.io and peertube, and so on.

I think Andrew Torba has insulted the technological potential of the fediverse as a network. For $20/month one can operate their own Fedi instance, running off Pleroma; cheaper, probably. Yes, you will have a lot of network calls in your first week, but nothing coming close to a \"DDoS\". It's a cop-out. I run two servers, one on Misskey at https://silkhe.art/ and one on Pleroma at https://collapsitarian.io ; tiny communities there to connect to the larger fediverse, as well as provide continued consistency to the shared DAG that federation creates. This technology has such great potential, as you must be aware with your current experiments, but there's so very much more to the fediverse, and I don't think anyone's in a better position than you to help people explore what is already there.

Federated video, man! Did you know there's more than one Peertube instance that mirrors every one of Tim's videos, and that other instances then can watch those videos via webtorrent? Peertube's even worked out streaming, though not to the refinement that Youtube has admittedly.

Blessed be, there's so much to explore, there, far beyond the microblogging which really is just the gateway to it all. Arrogant as it might be for me to think such a thing, I would love to help you explore its depths, and truly understand what it is you are getting yourself into. Every time you mention the fediverse, the number of people who join the fediverse doubles, in the least, for a day. All these numbers are public and multiply-verified by separate bots.

But just essaying at a person isn't something I enjoy doing. I feel bad, both because I doubt this will be seen by you.
