"content": "Here are some random thoughts on my part about the increasing wealth gap between those at the top and those at the bottom of society.. Why am I writing this? I think because I'm getting tired of being told I'm insensitive and racist when I say I don't support welfare (all white men are racist anyway, so I accept my lot)..

Being an engineer (trigger warning for the crazies), I'm trained to look for the root cause for various issues that come to me. Basically, this involves asking \"what, how, and why\" continually until you get to the bottom of the rabbit hole and it doesn't make sense to ask the question any more. Once may conclude that once we arrive at this point, we have arrived at the \"root cause\" - which means we now understand the mechanism by which things work. Once we have this, we can figure out actual solutions to the issue which will actually work, rather than put a band aid over the issue.

The left likes to claim that everything is a function of systems, and that the individual is irrelevant. The right triumphs the creativity and productivity of the individual, but ignores systems. In my humble opinion, reality is a function of both.

Regarding systems, my crude interpretation of events (I'm an engineer after all, not an economist), is that income derived from labor is being systematically attacked -vs- income from investments. This has been going on for several decades, and it happens in several ways. The first is the arrival of wave after wave of illegal immigration (yes, this is politically incorrect to say this - which is why we don't address many of our issues anymore). This has had the impact of cratering the wages at the lower end of the middle class which used to be unskilled labor. Skilled labor has been outsourced overseas systematically, which is now doing the same at the higher end of the middle class. When more labor is brought in willing to produce for a lower cost, economics would suggest that the value of all the labor in that labor pool is suppressed.

Another systematic source of the gap between rich and poor is quite frankly, the federal reserve. Since the FED has existed, the US dollar has lost over 97% of its value. Since going off the gold standard (money being replaced by fiat currency), this trend towards loss of purchasing power has accelerated. This means that the real purchasing power of one's wages is being forced down, even as net salaries increase. The American average standard of living really hasn't budged upwards since the 1980's, and in my opinion this is a huge driver of what is going on.

A new phenomenon which has taken on a life of its own during the Obama administration is in the form of artificially low interest rates, with the explanation that this will \"stimulate\" the economy. I'm going to sound infowars kind of crazy here, but in my opinion the government should be involved in fixing the value of the currency, not in fixing the interest rates. Essentially, the FED is price fixing the most important commodity - the time value of money - rather than allowing the market to determine this. Not only are we devaluing the unit of measurement on which our wages are measured, we are reducing the amount of interest the average saver can make off their money. We are subsidizing debt (which is the major cause of the last financial crisis), and penalizing saving and capitol investment (which is the main agency that drives new economic growth).

Combined with the enormous multi trillion dollars of money generation at the FED, those wealthy bankers who are connected with the right people at the FED (which is a PRIVATELY owned institution - owned by those very same bankers!) can get money at essentially zero cost, buy federal government bonds and make money with no risk, with other people's money. In doing so, the government is now able to borrow WAY more money than it should, which allows politicians to buy their elections with \"free stuff\" - money spent in many ways that doesn't really help the average person, but does subsidize certain well connected corporations and individuals who again, know more people in government than you or I.

We have therefore built up a national debt of $20 trillion which god knows how we'll ever pay (we probably can't), while inflating a bond bubble of absolutely epic proportions (bond value goes up as interest rates go down - normal interest rates are ~6%, we are now at I think 0.25%). Not only that, we have built up so much government debt that going back to normal interest rates really isn't an option - that will literally blow another trillion dollar a year hole in the federal budget.

So now, we find ourselves inside a system designed to funnel all the proceeds of economic activity to the top few people at the expense of the average person.

The standard government solution for this, is means tested assistance – be it welfare spending, wic, food stamps, section 8 housing etc. In my opinion, this is nothing more than a band-aid to the problem – like the bread and circuses of the Roman empire. We’ve literally spend 3+ trillion dollars on means tested income assistance since Lyndon B Jonhson, and have yet to see ANYONE lifted out of poverty by it – quite frankly poverty rates have increased lately, and the numbers of the poor have risen. It looks to me that this is just a way for those in power to keep the people at the bottom quiet enough to just sit down, shut up and accept their lot, while having the additional advantage of breeding dependency for the politicians, thereby ensuring that they can maintain their power.

In Hilary Clinton, I see the establishment, the embodiment of all of the issues above, placating the masses with yet another round of bread and circuses while she continues to consolidate power – and eviscerates whats left of the Constitution. Since it’s almost certain she will win at this point, we can look forward to four more years of decay, and further increases in the gap between the rich and the poor. As for Donald Trump – quite frankly I can’t stand the guy as a person, and he really doesn’t seem to have any understanding of the constitution either. However, he is the only guy of the lot this round who mentioned any of the issues I’ve talked about, and in my opinion this is why he got to where he did. Since the problems are not going to be solved in the next four years, expect more political instability, and more populists to emerge in the future. This could be good or bad – both George Washington and Adolf Hitler arose as populists!

As far as personal responsibility is involved (more trigger warnings!) we live in a victim culture right now that focuses on blaming anything and everything else except OURSELVES for our lot in life. If you’re not prepared to finish high school, get a useful trade, get married (and actually stay together as a couple), and hold off on babies until you’ve done the other things first), you have just guaranteed yourself a life of poverty! Just finishing high school, getting married, and not having kids until steps 1 and 2 are finished – that alone – will cut your chances of living in poverty by 70%, no matter what your sex or race is! Stop blaming white oppression, or the patriarchy for your problems – we are indoctrinating a generation of kids that have no concept of personal responsibility, and who go through life passively thinking of themselves as victims. If you think of yourself as a victim, you will act like one, and therefore become one. It’s a self fulfilling prophesy – you act on your beliefs until you make them true. The best way to never live as a victim, is to never allow yourself to think like one. The best way to be successful, is to think you can (within reason of course!), find some product or service others want and need, and work hard and PERSISTENTLY (the most important thing) to provide that product or service.

When confronted with someone more successful than us, there comes a point where we all have to choose between “wow, that guy is way more successful than me, I gotta get my shit together!”, and “wow, that guy is way more successful than me, I’m gonna tear his shit down!”. Social justice is teaching us option (2), but only option (1) is going to improve your life!

<Rant Over>",

"content": "Here are some random thoughts on my part about the increasing wealth gap between those at the top and those at the bottom of society.. Why am I writing this? I think because I'm getting tired of being told I'm insensitive and racist when I say I don't support welfare (all white men are racist anyway, so I accept my lot).. \n\nBeing an engineer (trigger warning for the crazies), I'm trained to look for the root cause for various issues that come to me. Once we have this, we can figure out actual solutions to the issue which will actually work, rather than put a band aid over the issue.\n\nThe left likes to claim that everything is a function of systems, and that the individual is irrelevant. The right triumphs the creativity and productivity of the individual, but ignores systems. In my humble opinion, reality is a function of both. \n\nRegarding systems, my crude interpretation of events (I'm an engineer after all, not an economist), is that income derived from labor is being systematically attacked -vs- income from investments. When more labor is brought in willing to produce for a lower cost, economics would suggest that the value of all the labor in that labor pool is suppressed.\n\nAnother systematic source of the gap between rich and poor is quite frankly, the federal reserve. \n\nA new phenomenon which has taken on a life of its own during the Obama administration is in the form of artificially low interest rates, with the explanation that this will \"stimulate\" the economy.
