"content": "Well, it's almost 2025. <br /><br />I don't really celebrate New Year's except to note the advent of a new calendar year. <br /><br />Resolutions? Also, no. If I happen to chance across something I'd like to change or improve, I definitely don't tell people or post it for public consumption. I read somewhere that your chances of affecting real change are greatly enhanced by announcing your plans. It raises the stakes to avoid possible judgement or humiliation, and convinces your brain to commit to something you've written or said aloud. I've personally never found that to be the case. Besides, today is as good a day as any to do something new or different.<br /><br />This year, though, I'll make a resolution for you. Have a conversation. Put down the phone or computer headset for a few minutes, and have a meaningful exchange with a live human being. Be interested in them, and let them know a little about who you are. It's hard to hate people you actually know, and if done consistently by enough people, perhaps we'd be less inclined to keep trying to kill one another.<br /><br />Anyway, just a thought...Happy New Year!",

"content": "Does anyone remember the Orange Box?<br /><br />For the unenlightened the Orange Box was a package sold by Valve Software to promote \"The Source Game Engine\". I mention this because the physical copies you got if you purchased the Orange Box arrived in a package that was unsurprisingly, a very bright example of its subject fruit. You can google this and get stunning examples of the particular vibrancy of this shade of orange. <br /><br />Why do I mention this?<br /><br />Because dear reader, my hair colour recently and somewhat disturbingly, exactly matched the game box.<br /><br />You may be wondering why a brave, smart and handsome man like myself would end up with day-glow orange hair the colour of the aforementioned Orange Box. This is because <a class=\"u-url mention\" href=\"https://www.minds.com/TaraDuncan\" target=\"_blank\">@TaraDuncan</a> has a chemistry set she regularly uses to perform experiments on me. Her logic is that if, in her experiments, my hair were to fall out or turn orange, the end result is, inter alia, a \"better him than me\" resolution. So wide-eyed and naïve, I submit to her evil whims.<br /><br />The almost worst-case-scenario is exactly what recently happened. Fortunately I was successful in avoiding all cameras, so there is no recorded evidence of this particular situation; due exclusively to valiant efforts to evade. I'm traumatized, and Tara spent two days without sleep because apparently the ambient glow of orange kept her awake. I swear this was some new-age orange that produced its own light.<br /><br />Her solution was to cover it with black shit, and while I admit this produced an acceptable result, I cannot help but feel the orangeness is quietly lurking under the follicle surface, ready to spring forth at a moment's notice. On further investigation it turns out Tara had inadvertently (she says) applied \"Step One\" TWICE! This second time I let it sit, as directed, for four hours (it's supposed to be 10 minutes for Step 1).<br /><br />So keep this tally in your head. I had Step 1 applied for the required 10 minutes, and then Step 1 for an additional 4 hours. Then there was some black shit to cover up the four hours and ten minutes of Step 1. I'm pretty sure she made the \"final solution\" out of tobacco and Sharpies in a blender. <br /><br />I just know the next time I wash my hair, my currently beautiful long, flowing chocolate brown locks, will devolve to the horrible Orange Box nightmare...seriously...tobacco and Sharpies. I know that's what she used - in a blender.<br /><br />So there you have it. My dark secret. I'm the victim of animal experimentation.<br /><br />All I can do is pray that the Night of the Mary Kay Commandos (bonus points for those who get that reference) will come to an end.<br /><br />These travesties should not, and cannot, be allowed to continue. <br /><br />Stop Animal Experimentation!",

I'm traumatized, and Tara spent two days without sleep because apparently the ambient glow of orange kept her awake. I swear this was some new-age orange that produced its own light.\n\nHer solution was to cover it with black shit, and while I admit this produced an acceptable result, I cannot help but feel the orangeness is quietly lurking under the follicle surface, ready to spring forth at a moment's notice. On further investigation it turns out Tara had inadvertently (she says) applied \"Step One\" TWICE! This second time I let it sit, as directed, for four hours (it's supposed to be 10 minutes for Step 1).\n\nSo keep this tally in your head. I had Step 1 applied for the required 10 minutes, and then Step 1 for an additional 4 hours. Then there was some black shit to cover up the four hours and ten minutes of Step 1. I'm pretty sure she made the \"final solution\" out of tobacco and Sharpies in a blender. \n\nI just know the next time I wash my hair, my currently beautiful long, flowing chocolate brown locks, will devolve to the horrible Orange Box nightmare...seriously...tobacco and Sharpies. I know that's what she used - in a blender.\n\nSo there you have it. My dark secret. I'm the victim of animal experimentation.\n\nAll I can do is pray that the Night of the Mary Kay Commandos (bonus points for those who get that reference) will come to an end.\n\nThese travesties should not, and cannot, be allowed to continue. \n\nStop Animal Experimentation!",
