There is a lot of talk about abolishing the electoral college which is used to elect the president. Recently the Huffington Post published an article saying that Trump was likely to win a second term. As you can expect, their opinion is in favor of doing away with the electoral college. But I am not so sure such an action is wise. If choosing a president comes down to a simple popularity contest, the power of the liberal leaning media will absolutely decide the election since the control the minds of the majority of the people. A Google search on why the electoral college was created brings up the following: <br /><br />\"The Electoral College was created for two reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between population and the selection of a President. ... The founding fathers were afraid of direct election to the Presidency. They feared a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power.\"<br /><br />People assume that a tyrant has to be a powerful person but a mob of media-incited name-calling liberals who have been manipulated for years to believe that every conservative is a bigot, racist, misogynist etc. is actually every bit as tyrannical. As shown by the huge number of people joining the <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&amp;t=all&amp;q=walkaway\" title=\"#walkaway\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#walkaway</a> movement, many people are waking up to how the democratic party, who by the way opposed the abolishment of slavery while the republicans supported it, relishes in promoting division in our society that they can utilize to their political advantage. They work so hard to keep blacks, women, hispanics and the LGBT community on their thought-plantation where they say only the democrats will fight for their rights which are being impinged upon. That whole story is hogwash. The democrats couldn't care less about their \"victim-constituents\". They only use them for votes. When in power they do very little for them. <br /><br />I used to vote democrat too and I voted for Obama in 2008 but skipped the 2012 and 2016 elections. I have come to realize that the incessant name-calling that the left uses is just an escapist action to avoid actual dialogue because they could not win a real argument. As for the large margin HRC had in the popular vote, I doubt it would stand up to a real investigation of the voting nationwide. It may very well find that illegal immigrants, people bussed around to vote multiple times and a considerable number of dead people's names were used to inflate the numbers for her. I do home that someday there is an investigation. The electronic voting machines are also very suspect. <br /><br />Also the fact that the company is actually a republic and not a democracy should be taught to all the people. The reasons for this also need to be understood. The founding fathers were against a democracy as such system inevitably result in mob rule and the destruction of the country. <br /><br />People need to embrace all people as one group of Americans and work together to improve the nation. If we don't do this, America will be on the way to becoming a third-world nation in which everyone will have to depend on government handouts. Our common goal should be to prevent this from happening. The community would have shops, parks, sports facilities and easy access to public transportation. As an incentive, those choosing to live here would be given an unconditional basic income. Please give me your opinions on this idea. I know that some may say that it is exactly what the elite would like to do which may be true or they may plan much worse for the 99%. In any case it is one way to move toward sustainability. If more people chose this we would be better prepared for the real scarcity which will come in the future. Just ignoring it will now work.
