Morality comes only from a higher power or authority. That power could be god it could be karmic order or believe it or not government oh and let’s not forget the wife. Which ever higher power a directive comes from we either choose to follow or disobey that directive or law. When we step outside of that law we are violating their moral code should we adhere to that code we are said to be acting in a moral fashion. But what about those libertarians and their non aggression principle? While I support the nonaggression principle calling it morality isn’t accurate. Mutually beneficial agreements are not an exercise of morality it is an exercise of civility. I agree not to kill you because I don’t want you to kill me. Should we both agree than it benefits both of us. But mainly it benifits the self of both participants. We both agree that we each have a right to the fruits of our own labor. Choosing not to steal from one another is mutually beneficial to both in the agreement. Should one of us violate the agreement we forfeit our protection under that agreement. We have not acted immorally we have only acted against our own benifit by doing harm to another. If an authority gives us a directive not to kill we are not abiding by that directive because it’s mutually beneficial; the law doesn’t apply to that athourity in the same way it applies to us. The government neither gains nor loses should we choose to act immorally it is only the one who commits the immoral act that would benifit should he choose to not act against the moral directive of that athority. Can morality exist without theists only if you don’t concider government to be the filler of the power vacuum created by the lack of a deity. Anarchy has no moral code.
