All of it started because the cops came to disarm him, because he was deemed too mentally unstable to own guns. Why? Because he questioned the legitimacy of the state. That's what Reichsbürger do: They loudly proclaim that the Federal Republic of Germany isn't a legitimate state, then they stay at home, write some weird manifestos and do their martial arts (lots of martial artists among them, don't ask why). So far, they're completely harmless if you don't tread on them. At worst, they'll physically restrain state officials for \"breaking the law\", which to me, as an anarchocapitalist, is just hilarious. Not so to officials. I mean, sure, some Albanians would knife them in the stomach and then call their cousins to start a brawl with the backup police squad, but at least they don't question that you have the law on your side. And what's an official without an ego?

The trial against Wolfgang P. stinks for two particular reasons:
1. He is tried for murder, not mere killing. This is a distinction in Germany: Totschlag (killing) is when you just kill someone. Mord (murder) is when you kill him and fulfill at least one murder criterion. But what criterion did Wolfgang P. fulfill? The police sent a SWAT team against him, and I don't see how engaging in a firefight with several fully armed and trained men - who are obviously on the watch for trouble - could qualify as, say, \"hinterhältig\" (sneaky). Nor did he act out of particularly condemnable motives. Was he acting to enable another crime, him keeping his guns? That might hold legal grounds, although in the case of someone who sincerely believes that the German state is illegitimate, this shouldn't make the cut for murder. All in all, it looks like the prosecution is trying to flex.
2. The leader of a SWAT team involved in the operation conveniently killed himself before he could testify.
