"content": "It doesn't matter what narrative one believes or the external world that is reflected. It's ok to retreat and focus on the positive things in your world. Do more of what makes you feel inner peace and happiness. There is no shame in switching off from the horrors being thrown our way left, right and centre. Watching the news will leave us feeling exasperated and drained. By all means, stay informed if that's what you want to do and then take a break and do something else. It doesn't mean we're abandoning those who are suffering. Being mentally strong means we are in a stronger position to help other people. On a flight, they will tell you to put on your oxygen mask before you help other people put theirs on. We cannot help anyone if we're mentally drained, experience burnout and become ill. There is some merit in being an observer. Do not get dragged down into the negativity. I believe we have the power to change the face of society. It's the little things that count and they accumulate over time and become big things. This might seem like a trite statement to some but it's true. If you find yourself feeling frustrated about a current system that isn't working, perhaps you're the person who can start something new rather than waiting for other people to come up with an idea. You'll find other people will magically appear to offer their gems of wisdom and input. It takes courage, hard work and commitment to do this and the strength to take criticism. There will be people who will vehemently disagree, but being honest and true to your beliefs is important. This way you will find 'the others.' It's not about fighting a flawed and corrupt system. It's about creating the new which will render the old, unevolved and outdated systems obsolete. In my humble opinion, this is the way forward.<br /><br />You aren't like them: Timothy Leary's famous call to arms. ..<br />“Admit it. You aren’t like them. You’re not even close. You may occasionally dress yourself up as one of them, watch the same mindless television shows as they do, maybe even eat the same fast food sometimes. But it seems that the more you try to fit in, the more you feel like an outsider, watching the ‘normal people’ as they go about their automatic existences. For every time you say club passwords like ‘Have a nice day’ and ‘Weather’s awful today, eh?’ you yearn inside to say forbidden things like ‘Tell me something that makes you cry’ or ‘What do you think deja vu is for?’ Face it, you even want to talk to that girl in the elevator. But what if that girl in the elevator (and the balding man who walks past your cubicle at work) are thinking the same thing? Who knows what you might learn from taking a chance on conversation with a stranger? Everybody carries a piece of the puzzle. Nobody comes into your life by mere coincidence. Trust your instincts.
