"content": "Ancestors are incredibly important in paganism. Through contact with your ancestors you get contact with the spirit world. You ancestors are your relatives who lived back in time, and the heritage you have from them. The heritage are the genes, thus your DNA.<br /><br />Paganism is not dualistic, unlike judaism, christianity and islam. Dualism means that you see body and spirit as essentially separate. In paganism there is no such separation. Therefore there is no distinction between your physical DNA and the spirits that they constitute. The ancestors who live in your genes are identical to the spiritual beings you get into contact with if you call upon your ancestors.<br /><br />The longer we go back in time, the more of us will have common ancestors. If we go back far enough, we are all related. By invoking such an ancient ancestor, that a lot of us are related to, we can get into contact with the same consciousness at the same time. That is the ancestral consciousness. This consciousness can then constitute a so called collective consciousness. Within this we can be seen as belonging to a giant cerebral cortex, in which we as individuals constitute the neurons. Within the brain of this giant the consciousness is created when many neurons work together.<br /><br />This can be seen on many levels. It can be seen in your own family, where all members have a great genetic concordance. This means that the collective consciousness is nearby. In ancient times there were many designations for this. For example in ancient Rome every family member made offerings to the then called Lares, who are protecting spirits whose altar in in the family home. By sacrificing to these you honoured the spirits of your ancestors, who live within the common genes of the family.<br /><br />If we continue to a greater level, a greater collective consciousness was in Latin called Gens (the word is obviously related to genetics, which means origin) and this word can be translated as tribe or clan. This spirit is greater, because more people belong to it.<br /><br />These genetic spirits have in modern times been forgotten. Naturally they were very thwarted by Christianity, partly since that is a dualistic teaching (it sees body and spirit as separate) and partly because it is universalistic (thus ignores the importance of genetics). Even today these ideas are combated by globalism and atheistic universalism. We don't trouble ourselves about those attempts to damage us, or our forebears. We continue to honour our ancestors and wake them to life. Thereby we strengthen ourselves, our bonds and our communities. Through our roots we are connected, the roots that are our genes.<br /><br />Hail to the spirits within our roots!",
