In fact, I hate it's guts. But this one is different.<br />While I still have a chance, I wanted to draw a clear line where do I stand in this.<br /><br />I know many of you condemn russians for it's govenments actions, and I totally understand this. In fact, I was raised in a very rusophobic household. Ever since I was a kid, I was told that Russia is populated by fashists, literal orcs that dream to see Europe ravaged by their empire. What I didn't see back then, is that it was nothing but my mom's defence mechanism, seeking enemies in desparation before Lukashenko's regime.<br /><br />When I traveled Russia, I didn't see orcs. I saw wonderous and sencire people that only want to build their lives and create the most beautifull things. People kept hostage by their govenment just like mine. People that I only want to see happy. In Ukraine, I saw people whose liveliness and bravery were awe inspiring long before nowadays.<br /><br />In all religions, cowardice is a sin most shamefull and vile. Due to it, Both russian and belorussian people were enslaved by the same evil that now sieges <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&amp;t=all&amp;q=Ukraine\" title=\"#Ukraine\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#Ukraine</a>. The name of that evil is tyranny and brave Ukranian spirit scares the s* out of it. Always had.<br />I do wish us all to inherit this spirit, because a world where tyranny has won deserves nuclear devastation anyway.<br /><br />This is pure madness.<br />Slavs should have never killed each other.<br />The frontline in this war lays not between Ukranians, Russians or Belorussans, but between humanity and tyrany. Cowardice and bravery.<br />I have no clue if we all survive and neiter if you will understand this message. But I wanted to be sure I had a chance to reach you.<br />Never back down in the face of tyranny, however it masks itself. What comes after is never worth living anyway.<br /><br />As for those of you who support Putins invasion...well, it's kinda distastefull to post death wishes, and I will not. I don't want you to die. I want you to live long to suffer beyond comprehension, untill final traces of sanity leave you and then suffer much more. The very fact we belong to the same species disgust me. To increase the possible interest to this linguistic fart, I'll try to focus on some films and books obscure to English-speaking audience.<br /><br />For example, tooday I'd like to share my thoughts on Brat. The movie that has tone the best it's best on explaining the mystery of Slavic soul.<br /><br />I'm the type of person who feels strange urge to resist when faces a strong pressure from friends to watch a particular movie, read a particular book or play a particular game. OMG YOU WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU NEVER PLAYED FALLOUT 2?? IT IS LIKE SO CULT YOU MUST DO IT RIGHT NOW! Yeah sure, just piss off and let me finish my anniversary Serious Sam playthrough.<br />The reason feel so rebellious is not that I'm just a provocative asshole, but also I kinda feel like I've passed the age when most cult movies and games that used to be super-cool when me and my friends were teenagers are now not-so impressive. Try to play Fallout2 now and chances are, you will be bored pretty quick unless you have autism, watch Ghostbusters now and most humor will look super cheezy to you e.t.c. So this is how I felt when I was repeatedly advised to watch Brat. I expected it to be boring a super-depressive movie with some dumb gopnick philosophy to it, and now that I finally became depressed enough to finally watch it I can tell you: yes, it is it. But not just that.<br /><br />Mid 90s, post-soviet economy is agonizing, newborn business yells and cries and bandits roam the streets. A simple-minded and untalkative antagonist returns from army to see his brother who happens to be an infamous killer. As you might see ths is the perfect movie to anyone who seeks to understand the essence of gopnick.<br /><br />This movie is not particularly action-filled, but not boring either. It is is best described and a video experience of that times' St. Petersburg, a chance to catch a glimpse of criminal and subcultural atmosphere that densely filled the old yards and wet streets. It is a bizzare post-soviet noir that mixes dreamlike tones and rough criminal reality, desperate poverty and hopes for better future. A slow and meditative pace perfectly correspond with the main hero's thoughts and actions. A weird soundtrack rises painful memories of my heavy music phase.<br /><br />The main hero is an impersonation of everything you'd expect from a slav: brutal honesty, calm attitude and at some point unbelivable kindness. No wonder Danila became a cult character in post-soviet countries. A man of action, he doesn't care about much exet duty and obscure russian music. At some point shows as a dreamy sensitive person, and at another he is a murder machine devoid of any emotion that doesn't get the job done. It is hard to describe to a foreigner the charisma behind this character, for now let's just say that Brat is the perfect movie if you feel like you'd love to see a character that acts like a fucking normal human being.<br /><br />A movie has a sequel, however I'd advise against watching it. I can't say it completely sucks: the director understood what made the original a success and added more of it, but he also filled with some shitty america vs russia pseudo-philosophical bullshit and a straight-up propaganda and I am not a huge fan of that.<br /><br />This is one of the movies that despite overall depressive tone and plotline, give you a strange feel of hope and joy. Brat is pretty similar to 'Knockin' at Haven's Door' in this.<br /><br />Brat is a great Russian movie. And one of the few that are not shit. It has a nice backstory behind it's creation too. I woun't spoil it for you, but it is a fun one too.<br />Basically this is the Drive of russian movie industry. An atmospheric city, a silent but extremely charismatic main hero, a slow-paced plotline with rapid and realistic action scenes, and a kick-ass soundtrack. <br />I think the reason I took time to write this is that I want someone English-speaking to watch this movie and leave and opinion on it especially since gopnick jokes seem to be a the new hot stuff now.<br />So if you just were looking for some hidden gem you know what to do.
