This means that you would pay for that share from annual dividends in a little under four years. After that, the dividends would yield profit on your investment.<br /><br />Jump to current day. You buy a share in Apple, which costs you $167.82. What do you suppose the dividend is on that share? You get a whopping $.63. The dividends would pay for that stock in a mere 266.3 years. After that, it's all profit baby!<br /><br />I admit there is a quite a lot I don't know about finance and the stock market. However, financial analysts openly admit that the very nature of the stock market has significantly shifted in the last 50 years to a highly speculative industry which dividends really don't fit into and aren't bothered with anymore.<br /><br />BTW, dividends on Google and Amazon stock (as listed by MarketWatch website): N/A. You pay over $1K per share for either of these, and get $0 dividend. Same goes for Netflix, although that stock is only $287 per share. The only incentive you can hope for is an increase in price or a stock split.<br /><br />In the stock world, these four companies are known and FANG (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google) stocks and are the four top performing stocks in the market.<br /><br />While I may not know a lot about the intricacies of the stock market, I do know a fishy deal when I see one.",
