"content": "It's become apparent from recent events happening across the country for the past year that radicalization exists on both ends of the political spectrum. This has resulted in severe damage to our intimate communities as well as the sacred spaces we use to carry out our constitutional processes. <br /><br />So where do we go from here?<br /><br />Our country was built on the diversity of both culture & political opinion. In previous generations, if your neighbor was a liberal & you were a conservative, you would still invite him to your dinner table. Despite your ideological differences, you could still have a civil debate while maintaining a friendship. This was a historic norm.<br /><br />Today, dinner parties have transformed into a dull monoculture of ideas. How boring it can be to never be challenged on your beliefs or inspired to see a new point of view. <br /><br />The foundation of being American once included welcoming a friendly debate. This concept has been infiltrated & essentially eliminated from the narrative. <br /><br />I'm afraid we're losing touch with what makes us human- fostering connection despite our differences & having compassion for each other. <br /><br />How did we get here?<br /><br />We should reflect on the impact & power that big tech & media corporations hold & their potent potential of reprogramming our psychology. <br /><br />As Ronald Reagan once confessed, “Politics is just like show business.” It's hard for me not to speculate that some parts of what went down at the capital earlier this week was an act of theatrics.<br /><br />Labeling everything we don’t understand as an act of white supremacy is hollow & unproductive. Interestingly enough, research shows that political party prejudice is more prevalent today than RACISM. <br /><br />Continuing to spread divisive rhetoric will not provide us with any progress. So why are those in power continuing to push it? <br /><br />How can we heal from this?<br /><br />I firmly believe censoring those we don't agree with is not the answer. It breeds isolation & will only fuel anger & more desperate attempts at being heard; ie: riots and violence. <br /> <br />The way to stop hateful speech is with MORE SPEECH. Without the opportunity of interference from a rational voice to inspire a shift in perspective, hate will undoubtedly perpetuate. We must set the right example to guide others out of the darkness. <br /><br />I love you even if I don't agree with you.
