"content": "I recently found myself in a situation where I had to have a somewhat awkward conversation with one of my girlkid's friend's dad about a little day trip our daughters want to take.<br />They both just turned 17 and want to go a few towns away for the day. No biggie for me. She has good brakes, new tires and shes responsible and kind.<br />The other girls dad had some reservations. Understandably.<br />I felt the need to remind this guy that he also raised a great kid. <br />The thing is, they could just bounce. They're patiently trying to make plans around other people's fears. That only works for so long. At some point, they'll just go...and may not come back. They would be gone, without knowing they have our support. At some point, they'll realize theres no pleasing us and just go.<br /><br />Do you trust your kids? Do they know you trust them?<br />Do your kids trust you? Do you even know?<br /><br />I ask these questions as my 46 year old self, but also as my 16 year old self.<br />I remember how all this felt, then.<br />To these young ladies, this is really important. They work hard and do good. <br />We didnt raise dimwits. Right? Right.",
