Verbal confusion reigns. Truth and illusion have merged. Mental chaos makes it hard to fathom what is happening. We feel trapped in a hall of mirrors. Exposed lies are answered with other lies. The rational is countered with the irrational. Cognitive dissonance prevails. We endure a disquieting shame and even guilt. Tens of millions of Americans, especially women, undocumented workers, Muslims and African-Americans, suffer the acute anxiety of being pursued by a predator. All this is by design. Demagogues always infect the governed with their own psychosis.

“The comparison between totalitarianism and psychosis is not incidental,” the psychiatrist Joost A.M. Meerloo wrote in his book “The Rape of the Mind: The Psychology of Thought Control, Menticide, and Brainwashing.” “Delusional thinking inevitably creeps into every form of tyranny and despotism. Unconscious backward forces come into action. Evil powers from the archaic past return. An automatic compulsion to go on to self-destruction develops, to justify one mistake with a new one; to enlarge and expand the vicious pathological circle becomes the dominating end of life. The frightened man, burdened by a culture he does not understand, retreats into the brute’s fantasy of limitless power in order to cover up the vacuum inside himself. This fantasy starts with the leaders and is later taken over by the masses they oppress.”

The lies fly out of the White House like flocks of pigeons: Donald Trump’s election victory was a landslide. He had the largest inauguration crowds in American history. Three million to 5 million undocumented immigrants voted illegally. Climate change is a hoax. Vaccines cause autism. Immigrants are carriers of “[t]remendous infectious disease.” The election was rigged—until it wasn’t. We don’t know “who really knocked down” the World Trade Center. Torture works. Mexico will pay for the wall. Conspiracy theories are fact. Scientific facts are conspiracies. America will be great again.

Our new president, a 70-year-old with orange-tinted skin and hair that Penn Jillette has likened to “cotton candy made of piss,” is, as Trump often reminds us, “very good looking.” He has almost no intellectual accomplishments — he knows little of history, politics, law, philosophy, art or governance — but insists “[m]y IQ is one of the highest—and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.” And the mediocrities and half-wits he has installed in his Cabinet have “by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever assembled.”

It is an avalanche of absurdities.

This mendacity would be easier to repulse if the problem was solely embodied in Trump. But even in the face of a rising despotism, the Democratic Party refuses to denounce the corporate forces that eviscerated our democracy and impoverished the country. The neoliberal Trump demonizes Muslims, undocumented workers and the media. The neoliberal Democratic Party demonizes Vladimir Putin and FBI Director James Comey. No one speaks about the destructive force of corporate power. The warring elites pit alternative facts against alternative facts. All engage in demagoguery. We will, I expect, be condemned to despotism by the venality of Trump and the cowardice and dishonesty of the liberal class.

Trump and those around him have a deep hatred for what they cannot understand. They silence anyone who thinks independently. They elevate pseudo-intellectuals who adhere to their bizarre script. They cannot cope with complexity, nuance or the unpredictable. Individual initiative is a mortal threat. The order for some employees of several federal agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s research service, the National Park Service and the Department of Health and Human Services, to restrict or cease communication with the press or members of Congress, along with the attempt to impose 10-year felony convictions on six reporters who covered the inauguration protests, signals the beginning of a campaign to marginalize reality and promote fantasy. Facts depend solely on those who have the power to create them. The goal of the Trump administration is to create an artificial consistency that conforms to its warped perception of the world.

“Before they seize power and establish a world according to their doctrines, totalitarian movements conjure up a lying world of consistency which is more adequate to the needs of the human mind than reality itself; in which, through sheer imagination, uprooted masses can feel at home and are spared the never-ending shocks which real life and real experiences deal to human beings and their expectations,” Hannah Arendt wrote in “The Origins of Totalitarianism.” “The force possessed by totalitarian propaganda—before the movements have the power to drop iron curtains to prevent anyone’s disturbing, by the slightest reality, the gruesome quiet of an entirely imaginary world—lies in its ability to shut the masses off from the real world.”

Trump’s blinding narcissism was captured in his bizarre talk to the CIA on Jan. 21. “[T]hey say, is Donald Trump an intellectual?” he said. “Trust me, I’m, like, a smart persona.”

“I have a running war with the media,” he added. “They are among the most dishonest human beings on earth. And they sort of made it sound like I had a feud with the intelligence community. And they understand that, too.” He launched into an attack on the media for not reporting that “a million, million and a half people” showed up for his inauguration. “They showed a field where there was practically nobody standing there,” he said about the media’s depiction of the inauguration crowd. “And they said, Donald Trump did not draw well. I said, it was almost raining, the rain should have scared them away, but God looked down and he said, we’re not going to let it rain on your speech.”

He has been on the cover of Time “like, 14 or 15 times,” Trump said in speaking of his criticism of the magazine because one of its reporters incorrectly wrote that the president had removed a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. from the Oval Office. “I think we have the all-time record in the history of Time magazine. Like, if Tom Brady is on the cover, it’s one time, because he won the Super Bowl or something, right? I’ve been on it for 15 times this year. Demagogues always infect the governed with their own psychosis.\n\n“The comparison between totalitarianism and psychosis is not incidental,” the psychiatrist Joost A.M. This fantasy starts with the leaders and is later taken over by the masses they oppress.”\n\nThe lies fly out of the White House like flocks of pigeons: Donald Trump’s election victory was a landslide. America will be great again.\n\nOur new president, a 70-year-old with orange-tinted skin and hair that Penn Jillette has likened to “cotton candy made of piss,” is, as Trump often reminds us, “very good looking.” He has almost no intellectual accomplishments — he knows little of history, politics, law, philosophy, art or governance — but insists “[m]y IQ is one of the highest—and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.” And the mediocrities and half-wits he has installed in his Cabinet have “by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever assembled.”\n\nIt is an avalanche of absurdities.\n\nThis mendacity would be easier to repulse if the problem was solely embodied in Trump. We will, I expect, be condemned to despotism by the venality of Trump and the cowardice and dishonesty of the liberal class.\n\nTrump and those around him have a deep hatred for what they cannot understand. October 7th are meticulously dissected, unveiling a complex tapestry of concealment, misinformation, and manipulation. The investigation exposes the genuine transgressions committed by Hamas, but more surprisingly, it uncovers transgressions that never occurred, which have been largely overlooked by Western media. The revelations reveal that the Israeli military and intelligence were well-informed about the plans, but failed to raise the alarm, resulting in a disastrous response. The exposé also debunks the widespread and systematic rape allegations, proving that these stories were fabricated in an attempt to vilify the enemy and justify further aggression. This groundbreaking investigation by Richard Sanders of Al Jazeera raises crucial questions about the media's role in shaping public perception and the need for a more comprehensive and impartial examination of global events.

✳️ Video On Rumble ► HERE:
https://rumble.com/v4olmy2-what-really-happened-on-october-7-double-down-news.html

Follow @JustDudeChannel 😎

• Telegram: https://t.me/JustDudeChannel
• Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/JustDudeChannel
• Gab: https://gab.com/JustDudeChannel
• Minds: https://www.minds.com/justdudechannel/?referrer=justdudechannel
https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1625101110811299845", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1387404222818947076/followers" ], "tag": [ { "type": "Mention", "href": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1387404222818947076", "name": "@JustDudeChannel" } ], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1625101110811299845", "published": "2024-04-11T10:11:37+00:00", "source": { "content": "What REALLY Happened On October 7 | Double Down News\n\nThe Video Israel Does Not Want You To See.\n\nIn this explosive exposé by \"Double Down News,\" the events of October 7th are meticulously dissected, unveiling a complex tapestry of concealment, misinformation, and manipulation. "Some of the horror stories about the supression of truth about Fluoride...

\"Voices of opposition have been suppressed since early days of fluoridation\"
Excerpt: Hileman B, Fluoridation of Water, Chemical & Engineering News, 1988 August 1, 66, pp 26-42

Ever since the Public Health Service (PHS) endorsed fluoridation in 1950, detractors have charged that PHS and the medical and dental establishment, such as the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Dental Association (ADA), have suppressed adverse scientific information about its effects.

Some of those who generally support fluoridation make similar charges. For example, Zev Remba, the Washington Bureau editor of AGD Impact, the monthly publication of the Academy of General Dentistry, wrote last year that supporters of fluoridation have had an\"unwillingness to release any information that would cast fluorides in a negative light,\" and that organized dentistry has lost \"its objectivity - the ability to consider varying viewpoints together with scientific data to reach a sensible conclusion.\"

The dozen or so scientists C&EN was able to contact who have done research suggesting negative effects from fluoridation agree on this aspect. They all say that fluoridation research is unusual in this respect.

If the lifeblood of science is open debate of evidence, scientific journals are the veins and arteries of the body scientific. Yet journal editors often have refused for political reasons to publish information that raises questions about fluoridation. A letter from Bernard P. Tillis, editor of the New York State Dental Journal, written in February 1984 to Geoffrey E. Smith, a dental surgeon from Melbourne, Australia, says: \"Your paper ... was read here with interest,\" but it is not appropriate for publication at this time because \"the opposition to fluoridation has become virulent again.\" The paper poses the question: Are people ingesting increasing amounts of fluoride and can they do so with impunity?

Sohan L. Manocha, now a lawyer, and Harold Warner, professor emeritus of biomedical engineering at Emory University medical school in Atlanta, received a similar letter in 1974 from the editor of AMA's Archives of Environmental Health. The editor rejected a report Manocha and Warner submitted on enzyme changes in monkeys who were drinking fluoridated water because of reviewers' comments such as: \"I would recommend that this paper not be accepted for publication at this time\" because \"this is a sensitive subject and any publication in this area is subject to interpretation by anti fluoridation groups.\"

These papers were subsequently published in prestigious British journals, Science Progress (Oxford) and Histochemical Journal. Many other authors have reported similar difficulties publishing original data that suggest adverse effects of fluoridated water. Most authoritative scientific overviews of fluoridation have omitted negative information about it, even when the oversight is pointed out. Phillips Grandjean, professor of environmental medicine at Odense University in Denmark, wrote to the Environmental Protection Agency in June 1985 about a World Health Organization study on fluorine and fluorides: \"Information which could cast any doubt on the advantage of fluoride supplements was left out by the Task Group. Unless I had been present myself, I would have found it hard to believe.\"

In his 1973 PhD. thesis on the fluoridation controversy, Edward Groth, III, a Stanford biology graduate student at that time, concluded that the vast majority of reviews of the literature were designed to promote fluoridation, not to examine evidence objectively. Groth also noted a number of anti fluoridation reviews that were equally biased.

According to Robert J. Carton, an environmental scientist at EPA, the scientific assessment of fluoride's health risks written by the agency in 1985 \"omits 90% of the literature on mutagenicity, most of which suggests fluoride is a mutagen.\"

Several scientists in the U.S. and other countries who have done research or written reports questioning the benefits of fluoridation or suggesting possible health risks were discouraged by their employers from publishing their findings. After their paper had been rejected by the editor of Archives of Environmental Health, Manocha and Warner were told by the director of their department not to try to publish their findings in any other U.S. journal. NIDR had warned the director that the research results would harm the cause of fluoridation. Eventually, Manocha and Warner were granted permission to publish their work in a foreign journal.

In 1982, John A. Colquhoun, former principal dental officer in the Department of Health in Auckland, New Zealand, was told after writing a report that showed no benefit from fluoridation in New Zealand that the department refused him permission to publish it.

In 1980, Brian Dementi, then toxicologist at the Virginia Department of Health, wrote a comprehensive report on \"Fluoride and Drinking Water\" that suggested possible health risks from fluoridation. This 36-page study has been purged from the department's library even though it is the only one the department has prepared on the subject. According to current employees, no copy exists anywhere in the department. Spokesmen say the report was thrown away because it was old but also say the department will be preparing another report on the subject soon.

An ADA white paper written in 1979 states: \"Dentists' nonparticipation [in fluoridation promotion] is overt neglect of professional responsibility.\" An ADA spokesperson says this is still the association's official policy. In recent years, several dentists who have testified on the anti fluoridation side have been reprimanded by their state dental officers.

ADA and PHS also have actively discouraged research into the health risks of fluoridation by attacking the work or the character of the investigators. As part of their political campaign, they have over the years collected information on perceived anti fluoridation scientists, leaders, and organizations. Newspaper articles about them are stored in files, as are letters about them from various proponents of fluoridation. Little or no effort has been made to verify the accuracy of this information. It is used not only in efforts to counteract arguments of the antifluoridationists, but also to discredit the work and objectivity of U.S. scientists whose research suggests possible health risks from fluoridation.

One example is the false information about the late George L. Waldbott, founder and chief of allergy clinics in four Detroit hospitals, that ADA disseminated widely to discredit the validity of his research. Rather than deal scientifically with his work, ADA mounted a campaign of criticism based largely on a letter from a West German health officer, Heinrich Horning. The letter made a number of untrue statements, including an allegation that Waldbott obtained his information on patients' reactions to fluoride solely from the use of questionnaires. ADA published Hornung's letter in its journal in 1956 and distributed a news release based on the letter. ADA later published Waldbott's response to this letter. But the widely disseminated original news release was not altered or corrected, and continued to be published in many places. As late as 1985, it was still being quoted. Once political attacks effectively portrayed him as \"anti fluoridation,\" Waldbott's work was largely ignored by physicians and scientists.

In November 1962 and 1965, ADA included in its journal long directories of information about anti-fluoridation scientists, organizations, leaders, and others known to be opposed to fluoridation. Listed in alphabetical order were reputable scientists, convicted felons, food faddists, scientific organizations, and the Ku Klux Klan. Information was given about each, including quotes from newspaper articles, some of which contained false data. The information was published for use by proponents of fluoridation in local fluoridation referenda.

John S. Small, information specialist at the National Institute of Dental Research, is quite willing to talk about the files he keeps on anti fluoridation organizations and their leaders. \"Of course, we gather information,\" he says. \"These people are running all over the country opposing fluoridation. We have to know what they are up to.\" Consumer advocate Ralph Nader has a different view of this activity. He calls it an \"institutionalized witchhunt.\"

It is easy to understand why research on risks of fluoridation has never been more vigorously pursued. Most of the individuals and agencies involved have been promoting fluoridation publicly for nearly 40 years. Research that suggests possible harm threatens them with a loss of face. For example, PHS has historically been the principal source of funds for fluoride research; but ever since June 1950, PHS has been officially committed to and responsible for promoting fluoridation. Thus, the agency has a fundamental conflict of interest.

Colquhoun, now teaching the history of education at the University of Auckland, offers another explanation for what appears to be the suppression of research. He notes that the editorial policy of scientific journals has \"generally been to not publish material which overtly opposes the fluoridation paradigm.\" Scientific journals employ a referee system of peer review. But when the overwhelming majority of experts in an area from which the referees are selected are committed to the shared paradigm of fluoridation, Colquhoun notes, the system lends itself to preservation and continuation of the traditional belief that fluoridation is safe and effective. This results in \"single-minded promotion, but poor quality research, and an apparent inability to flexibly reassess in the presence of unexpected new data,\" he says.\" (1)

Attack on a health officer in Calgary, Smith G, North Hill News, Thursday, June 11, 1970

An exhausted, harassed grey-haired man walked down the city hall staircase. \"Life would be so much easier if I did not stand up for my principles.\" he told me following a shocking attack on him in the council chamber.

Dr. W.H. Hill, medical officer of health for the City of Calgary, was soon to retire, a broken man, and he did not have long to live He was a victim of persecution because of his brave stand over fluoridation advising caution against the fluoridation of the city water supply, Hill was abused by councillors, attacked by dentists and victimized by some of his medical colleagues.

The fluoridation dispute was one of the most disgusting episodes in the civic history of Calgary during the fifties. The entire campaign was in the tone of the painful transition from small town politics.
CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
At the outset Dr Hill was not opposed to fluoridation, I know, I broke the story. What happened was this: The campaign was getting into gear behind the scenes. The way it suddenly flooded North America was a triumph of propaganda and, like all large-scale publicity operations, it was backed by funds, large funds which were not raised from impoverished reporters. One year (1949?) the American Dental Association was resolving to launch a campaign to discourage the consumption of pop. Next year pop was forgotten as the mighty union jumped on the bandwagon for fluorides.

The campaign in Calgary was carefully planned as a brilliant operation. Calgary was considered a key city in Canada It was compact with one municipal authority and one water supply controlled by that single authority. The population was young, the birth rate fantastic at 32 per 1000, young parents were crowding into the new suburbs The emphasis in the campaign was on the progressive young families.

NEW GENERATION
Housewives were to be flattered as bright, young intelligent persons willing to back progress Fluorine was the panacea for the modern generation.

At that point in time, a municipal authority could order fluoridation without referendum. Later the Alberta government imposed a referendum requirement.

The campaign was headed by a group of brash young dentists sweeping all before them. It was even rumoured that they had imported a man from Vancouver and, put him on city council -- an easy move under city-at-large elections given the right financial backing and support from the old Civic Government Association, succeeded after that became discredited by the United Citizens' Association. Both were much the same sort of pompous stuffed shirt brigade from downtown business.

MEDIA BRAINWASHED
The incumbent councillors were quickly influenced by the campaigners. The media daily newspapers, radio and the infant television were brainwashed in one of the easiest offensives in modern political history. Reporters were brought to heel. It was at that time before the campaign entered the public arena that I asked Dr Hill for his views. To me fluoridation was a mystery but it sounded like a Good Thing. The arguments were convincing for a layman.

Hill did not oppose it initially. He was subsequently driven into that situation. He merely said that, until fluoridation had been thoroughly tested and proven not only effective but 100% safe to all consumers, any responsible public health officer must advise caution. Authorities were divided on the issue, he said and until there was unqualified recommendation, he could not recommend it.

#massawakening
#pureblood ", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/953379259525636099/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1483106824310755332", "published": "2023-03-16T14:17:01+00:00", "attachment": [ { "type": "Document", "url": "https://cdn.minds.com/fs/v1/thumbnail/1483106357295976451/xlarge/", "mediaType": "image/jpeg", "height": 600, "width": 421 } ], "source": { "content": "Some of the horror stories about the supression of truth about Fluoride...\n\n\"Voices of opposition have been suppressed since early days of fluoridation\"\nExcerpt: Hileman B, Fluoridation of Water, Chemical & Engineering News, 1988 August 1, 66, pp 26-42\n\nEver since the Public Health Service (PHS) endorsed fluoridation in 1950, detractors have charged that PHS and the medical and dental establishment, such as the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Dental Association (ADA), have suppressed adverse scientific information about its effects.\n\nSome of those who generally support fluoridation make similar charges. Calgary was considered a key city in Canada It was compact with one municipal authority and one water supply controlled by that single authority. The population was young, the birth rate fantastic at 32 per 1000, young parents were crowding into the new suburbs The emphasis in the campaign was on the progressive young families.\n\nNEW GENERATION\nHousewives were to be flattered as bright, young intelligent persons willing to back progress Fluorine was the panacea for the modern generation.\n\nAt that point in time, a municipal authority could order fluoridation without referendum. Later the Alberta government imposed a referendum requirement.\n\nThe campaign was headed by a group of brash young dentists sweeping all before them. It was even rumoured that they had imported a man from Vancouver and, put him on city council -- an easy move under city-at-large elections given the right financial backing and support from the old Civic Government Association, succeeded after that became discredited by the United Citizens' Association. Both were much the same sort of pompous stuffed shirt brigade from downtown business.\n\nMEDIA BRAINWASHED\nThe incumbent councillors were quickly influenced by the campaigners. The arguments were convincing for a layman.\n\nHill did not oppose it initially. He was subsequently driven into that situation. He merely said that, until fluoridation had been thoroughly tested and proven not only effective but 100% safe to all consumers, any responsible public health officer must advise caution. Authorities were divided on the issue, he said and until there was unqualified recommendation, he could not recommend it.\n\n#massawakening \n#pureblood ", "mediaType": "text/plain" } }, "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1728069733279862784/https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/953379259525636099/entities/urn:activity:1483106824310755332/like" }, { "type": "Like", "actor": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1728069733279862784", "object": { "type": "Note", "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1208081689201352717/entities/urn:activity:1292116664514514958", "attributedTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1208081689201352717", "content": "I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.

By~ Ralph Nader
", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1208081689201352717/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1292116664514514958", "published": "2021-10-05T13:30:18+00:00", "source": { "content": "I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.\n\nBy~ Ralph Nader\n", "mediaType": "text/plain" } }, "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1728069733279862784/https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1208081689201352717/entities/urn:activity:1292116664514514958/like" }, { "type": "Like", "actor": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1728069733279862784", "object": { "type": "Note", "id": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1064398996371415049/entities/urn:activity:1364993214032908306", "attributedTo": "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1064398996371415049", "content": "\"Every culture has something to be ashamed of, but every culture also has the right to change, to challenge negative traditions, and create to new ones.\" - None of the shows I did on mass incarceration, where I interviewed those released from our prisons, are any longer on YouTube. Gone are the shows with the cartoonists Joe Sacco and Dwayne Booth. Melted into thin air, leaving not a rack behind.

I received no inquiry or notice from YouTube. I vanished. In totalitarian systems you exist, then you don’t. I suppose this was done in the name of censoring Russian propaganda, although I have a hard time seeing how a detailed discussion of “Ulysses” or the biographies of Susan Sontag and J. Robert Oppenheimer had any connection in the eyes of the most obtuse censors in Silicon Valley with Vladimir Putin. Indeed, there is not one show that dealt with Russia. I was on RT because, as a critic of US imperialism, militarism, the corporate control of the two ruling parties, and especially because I support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel, I was blacklisted. I was on RT for the same reason the dissident Vaclav Havel, who I knew, was on Voice of America during the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. It was that or not be heard. Havel had no more love for the policies of Washington than I have for those of Moscow.

Are we a more informed and better society because of this censorship? Is this a world we want to inhabit where those who know everything about us and about whom we know nothing can instantly erase us? If this happens to me, it can happen to you, to any critic anywhere who challenges the dominant narrative. And that is where we are headed as the ruling elites refuse to respond to the disenfranchisement and suffering of the working class, opting not for social and political change or the curbing of the rapacious power and obscene wealth of our oligarchic rulers, but instead imposing iron control over information, as if that will solve the mounting social unrest and vast political and social divides.

The most vocal cheerleaders for this censorship are the liberal class. Terrified of the enraged crowds of QAnon conspiracy theorists, Christian fascists, gun-toting militias, and cult-like Trump supporters that grew out of the distortions of the money-drenched electoral system, neoliberalism, austerity, deindustrialization, predatory capitalism, and the collapse of social programs, they plead with the digital monopolies to make it all go away. They blame anyone but themselves. Democrats in the U.S. Congress have held hearings with the CEOs of social media companies pressuring them to do more to censor content. Banish the troglodytes. Then we will have social cohesion. Then life will go back to normal. Fake news. Harm reduction model. Information pollution. Information disorder. They have all sorts of Orwellian phrases to justify censorship. Meanwhile, they peddle their own fantasy that Russia was responsible for the election of Donald Trump. It is a stunning inability to be remotely self-reflective or self-critical, and it is ominous as we move deeper and deeper into a state of political and social dysfunction.

What were my sins? I did not, like my former employer, The New York Times, sell you the lie of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, peddle conspiracy theories about Donald Trump being a Russian asset, put out a ten-part podcast called the Caliphate that was a hoax, or tell you that the contents on Hunter Biden’s laptop was “disinformation.” I did not prophesize that Joe Biden was the next FDR or that Hillary Clinton was going to win the election.

This censorship is about supporting what, as I.F Stone reminded us, governments always do – lie. Challenge the official lie, as I often did, and you will soon become a nonperson on digital media. Julian Assange and Edward Snowden exposed the truth about the criminal inner workings of power. Look where they are now. This censorship is one step removed from Joseph Stalin’s airbrushing of nonpersons such as Leon Trotsky out of official photographs. It is a destruction of our collective memory. It removes the efforts to examine our reality in ways the ruling class does not appreciate. The goal is to foster historical amnesia. If we don’t know what happened in the past, we cannot make sense of the present.

“The moment we no longer have a free press, anything can happen,” Hannah Arendt warned. “What makes it possible for a totalitarian or any other dictatorship to rule is that people are not informed; how can you have an opinion if you are not informed? If everybody always lies to you, the consequence is not that you believe the lies, but rather that nobody believes anything any longer. This is because lies, by their very nature, have to be changed, and a lying government has constantly to rewrite its own history. On the receiving end you get not only one lie—a lie which you could go on for the rest of your days—but you get a great number of lies, depending on how the political wind blows. And a people that no longer can believe anything cannot make up its mind. It is deprived not only of its capacity to act but also of its capacity to think and to judge. And with such a people you can then do what you please.”

I am not alone. YouTube regularly removes or demonetizes channels, which happened to Progressive Soapbox, without warning, usually by arguing that the content contained videos that violated YouTube’s amorphous community guidelines. Status Coup, which filmed the January 6 storming of the Capital, was suspended from YouTube for “advancing the false claims of election fraud.” My video content, by the way, primarily consisted of book covers, quotes from passages of books and author photos, but it got disappeared anyway.

The deplatformiong of voices like mine, already blocked by commercial media and marginalized with algorithms, is coupled with the pernicious campaign to funnel people back into the arms of the establishment media such as CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. In the US, as Dorthy Parker once said about Katharine Hepburn’s emotional range as an actress, any policy discussion ranges from A to B. Step outside those lines and you are an outcast. This is the reason Matt Taibbi, Glenn Greenwald and I are on Substack.

The Ukraine war, which I denounced as a “criminal war of aggression” when it began in the column “War is the Greatest Evil” on ScheerPost, is a sterling example. Any effort to put it into historical context, to suggest that the betrayal of agreements by the West with Moscow, which I covered as a reporter in Eastern Europe during the collapse of the Soviet Union, along with the expansion of NATO might have baited Russia into the conflict, is dismissed. Nuance. Complexity. Ambiguity. Historical context. Self-criticism. All are dismissed.

My show, dedicated primarily to authors and their books, should have been, if we had a functioning system of public broadcasting, on PBS or NPR. But public broadcasting is as captive to corporations and the wealthy as the commercial media, indeed PBS and NPR run commercials in the guise of sponsorship acknowledgements. The last show on public broadcasting that examined power was Moyers & Company. Once Bill Moyers went off the air in 2015, no one took his place.

A few decades ago, you could hear independent voices on public broadcasting, including Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Howard Zinn, Ralph Nader, Angela Davis, James Baldwin, and Noam Chomsky. No more. A few decades ago, there were a variety of alternative weeklies and magazines. A few decades ago, we still had a press that, however flawed, had not rendered whole segments of the population, especially the poor and social critics, invisible. It is perhaps telling that our greatest investigative journalist, Sy Hersh, who exposed the massacre of 500 unarmed Vietnamese civilians by US soldiers at My Lai and the torture at Abu Ghraib, has trouble publishing in the United States. I would direct you to the interview I did with Sy about the decayed state of the American media, but it no longer exists on YouTube.

https://chrishedges.substack.com/p/on-being-disappeared?r=6b7xg&s=r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1228944666024484873/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1355063575877521413", "published": "2022-03-28T06:18:51+00:00", "source": { "content": "The entire archive of six years of my show On Contact has been disappeared from YouTube.\n\nThe entire archive of On Contact, the Emmy-nominated show I hosted for six years for RT America and RT International, has been disappeared from YouTube. Gone is the interview with Nathaniel Philbrick on his book about George Washington. Gone is the discussion with Kai Bird on his biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Gone is my exploration with Professor Sam Slote from Trinity College Dublin of James Joyce’s “Ulysses.” Gone is the show with Benjamin Moser on his biography of Susan Sontag. Gone is the show with Stephen Kinzer on his book on John Foster Dulles and Allen Dulles. Gone are the interviews with the social critics Cornel West, Tariq Ali, Noam Chomsky, Gerald Horne, Wendy Brown, Paul Street, Gabriel Rockwell, Naomi Wolff and Slavoj Zizek. Gone are the interviews with the novelists Russell Banks and Salar Abdoh. Gone is the interview with Kevin Sharp, a former federal judge, on the case of Leonard Peltier. Gone are the interviews with economists David Harvey and Richard Wolff. Gone are the interviews with the combat veterans and West Point graduates Danny Sjursen and Eric Edstrom about our wars in the Middle East. Gone are the discussions with the journalists Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi. Gone are the voices of those who are being persecuted and marginalized, including the human rights attorney Steven Donziger and the political prisoner Mumia Abu Jamal. None of the shows I did on mass incarceration, where I interviewed those released from our prisons, are any longer on YouTube. Gone are the shows with the cartoonists Joe Sacco and Dwayne Booth. Melted into thin air, leaving not a rack behind. \n\n I received no inquiry or notice from YouTube. \n\nAre we a more informed and better society because of this censorship? Is this a world we want to inhabit where those who know everything about us and about whom we know nothing can instantly erase us? If this happens to me, it can happen to you, to any critic anywhere who challenges the dominant narrative. And that is where we are headed as the ruling elites refuse to respond to the disenfranchisement and suffering of the working class, opting not for social and political change or the curbing of the rapacious power and obscene wealth of our oligarchic rulers, but instead imposing iron control over information, as if that will solve the mounting social unrest and vast political and social divides. \n\n The most vocal cheerleaders for this censorship are the liberal class. \n\n What were my sins? I did not, like my former employer, The New York Times, sell you the lie of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, peddle conspiracy theories about Donald Trump being a Russian asset, put out a ten-part podcast called the Caliphate that was a hoax, or tell you that the contents on Hunter Biden’s laptop was “disinformation.” I did not prophesize that Joe Biden was the next FDR or that Hillary Clinton was going to win the election. \n\n This censorship is about supporting what, as I.F Stone reminded us, governments always do – lie. \n\n “The moment we no longer have a free press, anything can happen,” Hannah Arendt warned. And with such a people you can then do what you please.”\n\n I am not alone. YouTube regularly removes or demonetizes channels, which happened to Progressive Soapbox, without warning, usually by arguing that the content contained videos that violated YouTube’s amorphous community guidelines. Status Coup, which filmed the January 6 storming of the Capital, was suspended from YouTube for “advancing the false claims of election fraud.” My video content, by the way, primarily consisted of book covers, quotes from passages of books and author photos, but it got disappeared anyway.\n\n The deplatformiong of voices like mine, already blocked by commercial media and marginalized with algorithms, is coupled with the pernicious campaign to funnel people back into the arms of the establishment media such as CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. In the US, as Dorthy Parker once said about Katharine Hepburn’s emotional range as an actress, any policy discussion ranges from A to B. Step outside those lines and you are an outcast. This is the reason Matt Taibbi, Glenn Greenwald and I are on Substack.\n\nThe Ukraine war, which I denounced as a “criminal war of aggression” when it began in the column “War is the Greatest Evil” on ScheerPost, is a sterling example. All are dismissed.\n\n My show, dedicated primarily to authors and their books, should have been, if we had a functioning system of public broadcasting, on PBS or NPR. \n\n A few decades ago, you could hear independent voices on public broadcasting, including Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Howard Zinn, Ralph Nader, Angela Davis, James Baldwin, and Noam Chomsky. No more. A few decades ago, there were a variety of alternative weeklies and magazines. A few decades ago, we still had a press that, however flawed, had not rendered whole segments of the population, especially the poor and social critics, invisible.
