"content": "Great, glorious day in the Lord!

I finished up my first week at Geico yesterday. There were some minor hiccups, but overall, it went well. I'll get my first paycheck for the one week of pay next week, which is fine. I'm delighted for it too. I'll also be getting my sign-on bonus in that check. I wasn't expecting that until next month, so getting it now is a nice surprise. I also found out they're paying us for attending the 2-hour open house we had on the 2nd. I wasn't expecting that, so it was another pleasant surprise.

They had to split our training group up. Those already licensed (like me) were kept at the Geico office for the first 2 weeks. Those who didn't have licenses were kept at the offsite training facility to do their licensing. After next week, those with licenses will rejoin the rest of our training group to begin training. Those with licenses have gotten a sneak peek at the systems used. We've been working on our Workday learning modules this week. It is tedious work but necessary. Next week, we'll be doing some side-by-side to get a look into the role watching and listening to phone calls and such. I'm looking forward to that.

We worked from home Thursday and Friday because we had a winter storm roll in that messed up all the roads. I'm just north of the Dallas area. When winter weather events happen here, the whole city shuts down. We don't get this type of weather often enough for the cities and TxDOT to keep the equipment on hand to curtail all the ice and snow on the roads. It looks like it will warm up to 40 or so today, so hopefully, that will finish clearing the roads. We'll be back in the office on Monday.

I've got about 10# of boneless skinless chicken thighs I've gotta pick up with my grocery order this afternoon that I plan to can this weekend. It was on sale, and we're running low on canned chicken. I moved my Walmart order to tomorrow after church. I had originally set it for 9am this morning but changed it once the storm came in.

My outdoor kitty can't decide if he wants to stay in or out. He wants in for about an hour and then wants back outside for a while. Overall, he seems to be faring well enough. I know that he's been staying under the house. There's another stray orange cat that hangs around, who I haven't seen since before the storm. Hopefully, he has hunkered down somewhere.

That's all I've got so far today. I hope everyone has a blessed Saturday.",

We are supposed to get wintry weather with that one. Hopefully, there will be just snow and no ice. Ice here in north central Texas can shut us down.

Tomorrow, I start my new job with GEICO. I'm very excited about this new chapter in my career. I attended an open house on Thursday, where we met many managers and had a tour of the building. I found out there is a gym on site that is 24/7, so that's good. I'm not sure what they have planned for those of us who already have our adjuster licenses. The first 2 weeks is training for licensing. This job is on-site. For the last several years, I've been working remotely. I'm rather looking forward to getting out of the house and being around some people. Remote work is very isolating, and I don't think it's been very good for me.

Today, I'll be getting ready for my upcoming work week. I've got laundry to do, egg-bite muffins to make for breakfast, and eggs to boil for lunch.

Now that I've had all the ductwork under my house replaced, my HVAC system is working like it's supposed to. I've actually got heat now. So we've got to get all the AC units moved into the storage building today. I plan to sell them in the spring. Should get a pretty good price for them. They're the portable kind with a vent that goes to the window. Only used for one season. The HVAC repair man said not only were all my ducts disintegrated, but the receivers were all 12\", and whoever installed the ducts last used 14\", which is much too large. I'm just glad I've finally got excellent air flow from my vents now. This explains why my AC couldn't cool the house this past summer. What baffles me is that I had this property inspected prior to buying it, and they checked under the house. Nowhere in the report did it mention anything about the ductwork. It really ticks me off because, as buyers, we rely on these people to give us good information. I saw the duct work he pulled out from under my house. It was awful.

That's all I've got for now. I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday!",

"content": "Pan to do several things today on this somewhat rainy Christmas eve. Currently have a peach pie in the oven. Gonna make and can pineapple mango salsa today. I'm also making fudge today. Putting together a gift basket for my momma of home canned items, vanilla extract, and fudge.\n\nI've been reading everyone's posts today with well wishes for Christmas. I've also been contemplating the reason we celebrate.\n\nWhen my kids were young, and I was much more worldly, we were all into the secular celebration of Christmas. I'll admit we spoiled our kids, and Christmas was a very big deal in our house. Now that my kids are grown, and I've moved away from the secular world, remembering Christ's birth and sacrifice are much more important. I don't really even decorate any more.\n\nI'm planning to spend the day with my kids and cooking a nice meal. Looking forward to seeing my son who's out of school right now for winter break. \n\nI wanted to take this time to wish everyone here a very merry Christmas. May your days be filled with blessings.",

Should be some green as my yard still has weeds growing. Excited to see how the compost does over the winter.",

I've passed the background check, so my official start date is January 6, 2025. I'm so very excited. This new position will pay twice what I'm currently making. Also, because I already have an adjuster license, I am eligible to receive a $1500 sign-on bonus. I will also receive a $1000 bonus when I finish training. This truly is a blessing, and I'm so looking forward to starting this new position.

Hallelujah and praise in the highest to the Lord for this wonderful blessing.",
