"content": "Slowly the room was getting lighter as the sun rose. The coolness of the night fading, the stillness as I awaken, the promise of new day, the rumble of a B-52 war relic fills the air. It is Memorial Day in the twenty hundred and twenty second year of grace.<br /><br />As I ponder the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters in defense, our fathers, forefathers and all our ancestors that came before them. For generations we have gone off to fight in wars for our clans, Jarls, Kings, Queens and country.<br /><br />We stand on the shoulders of our ancestors, all that we have today comes from their sacrifices. But what were they really fighting for a flag, a country, an ideal, a document? What would motivate a freeman to go off to war and risk all including life? What could possibly be so precious to give our lives for, generation after generation? <br /><br />To answer this, I think about the only things we were allowed to bring with us into the service. As I headed off to boot camp, as my father did and so forth all we had were the clothes on our backs, a bible, a couple pictures and our hair. As we are processed, molded, shaped, conditioned we quickly we lose our hair and quickly change from clothes to uniforms. But what do we hold dear, what do we retain and what do we carry even into death? <br /><br />While we cannot take with us that old bible that we got at confirmation with a few mementos and pictures tucked into it. It comforts us in times of trial and reminds us of our Creator who endowed us with freedom. Freedom is the one thing that no King, Queen, Jarl can take from us as freemen. It is the one thing that we take with us when we die. Freedom is the one thing that generation after generation we defend. Freedom is what freemen go off to wars for.<br /><br />That brings us to the mementos and pictures, they represent who we fight for. We don’t do it for an ideal, a line on a map, document, flag, Country, King, Queen or Jarl. We honor our parents and ancestors and continue the fight for our children, wives and family, those that we hold dearest in our hearts.<br /><br />On this Memorial Day let us remember what so many have given their all for and let us honor those that paid the ultimate price as we carry on in the fight for freedom of those we hold dearest.",
