They recorded a brief interview on BBC radio to promote the event.<br /><br />From 11am untill 7pm, 4 to 5 lions barber ambassadors came to cut mens hair and remind us all of the benefits of the service offered by barbers. Tom Chapman, founder of Lions Barbers explained to BBC radio that the barber is a \"familiar stranger\" to clients who he feels \"looks after their clients which has been something that has been really missed during the pandemic\". However, regardless of whether we want to book in for a mens hair cut via sites or apps, what implications might there be for the client and barbershop owner as vaccine (digital identity) passports become the ultimatum which both are expected to adopt by the state as a prerequisite to benefit from those services?<br /><br />A while back, to claim that vaccine passports could materialise as something that would actually be implemented would award you the title of being considered a “conspiracy theorist”. This has since been implemented in various parts of the world including Israel, Australia and now Scotland in certain industry sectors [Update- Most recently I am hearing reports that many countries are resisting (or at least heavily protesting against) the passports!].<br /><br />The act of verifying the digital identity of an individual is dangerous on several levels. It brings with it the possibility of a coercive social credit system, like they have in China (This technology was highlighted in a Black Mirror episode called Nosedive), where individuals are denied access to certain resources and experiences based on their behaviour, which in turn affects their social credit rating. Vaccine passports are thus the single biggest threat to UK businesses, since they hold to ransom our access to services which we have until previously benefited from, depending on our vaccination status.<br /><br />My feeling is that as time goes on, businesses will continue to warm to Bitcoin and other DeFi cryptocurrencies. The real challenge business owners face will be a spiritual dilemma: to continue with supporting centralised power structures, or start considering the value of creating a counter-economy?<br /><br />What do you think? Does capitalism have a place in the future? Have you heard of Agorism - and if so, do you value it? How plausible does a “counter-economy” sound to you, and what might it look like?",

When I first heard this I was curious but it’s a thing now, apparently…<br /><br />I was told by a mentor that mobile barbering (cutting gentlemen’s hair), at least in my area where I live, does not see the same level of demand as Women’s mobile hairdressing. I wondered why. <br /><br />I asked myself where might this reluctance come from? Perhaps many men don’t want to wait around for a barber to appear at their house, take up their personal space and time and create a hairy mess on the floor. Whatever the reason was, I think that convenience is a desirable quality for today’s modern man. <br /><br />Personally as a trainee junior barber, the idea of client walk-ins seems a little antiquated lately. While the alleged pandemic has ruined most things, one good thing to come of it (in my humble opinion) is client appointments. Clients and barbers can now set a date and time and do business which streamlines the services and makes life easier: something which has historically only been enjoyed by women’s hairdressers.<br /><br />One appointment-based gentleman who is disrupting the barbering industry in a small but noticeable way is Darren Tenkorang, who grew up in Brixton, South London UK. Darren is one of the co-founders of mobile barbering service Trim-it, which has seen a lot of interest. He specialises in cutting Afro-Caribbean hair, and has a fleet of two vans driving around South London to perform men’s hair cuts in.<br /><br />Afro-Caribbean hair requires a certain level of expertise to cut well; It is different to European, Caucasian and Asian hair. At present there is currently a relatively low supply of Afro-Caribbean specialist barbershops in the UK compared to non Afro-Caribbean barbershops, as I understand it. To meet this high demand then would be a great business opportunity alone, but Darren goes a step further by offering his client base the convenience of arriving in a nicely done up Ford Transit van. <br /><br />What do you think?
