"content": "(Poem of the Week)<br /><br />I<br /><br />Love.<br />So much of it, <br />Your own lips kill <br />With the poison<br />You sucked from <br />The murdered lips <br />Of your loved,<br />Or perhaps drank from <br />The glass you filled<br />With their rejection.<br />Rejected as her advice – <br />He still navigates unwise,<br />‘Till the ocean eats his ship.<br />The same ocean in which<br />She swims to cease to live.<br /><br />Honor. <br />So much of it,<br />Your own blade kills,<br />As it cuts your gall,<br />In glory,<br />So you make a name.<br />Or perhaps you face <br />A might you can’t kill,<br />Just to stain their history.<br /><br />Shame.<br />Too much of it.<br />Such that the blood<br />Shed by a criminal<br />Concupiscence<br />Can only be cleansed<br />By the shedding<br />Of what’s left,<br />In silence – <br />They too took your tongue.<br /><br />II<br /><br />There is nothing more <br />Human than suicide.<br />Those creatures,<br />That not only know death,<br />But wish it upon themselves.<br />So the seriousness of their pain <br />Is made clear by the weight <br />Of the sacrifice performed.<br /><br />A note and a rope.<br />A speech and a shot.<br />Cry high, slit your throat. <br />Existence defy.<br /><br />It is so tragic.<br />It can be so poetic.<br />Or at least it could,<br />When Love, Honor, and Shame <br />Still ruled consciousness.<br />In these evolved times,<br />Death is just another option.<br /><br />A civilized choice.<br />A rational calculation.<br />A symbol of freedom. <br />A consumer decision.<br />A medical technicality.<br /><br />You can pay a nurse <br />To end all pain! <br />Pain you don’t feel,<br />Anyway, <br />‘Cos asleep you live,<br />Pampered by pills.<br />One can go online, <br />Make a download,<br />Print a pod, <br />And suffocate.<br /><br />With all the banality <br />There is no need for defiance.<br />Existence is just voided<br />Slong with the humanity <br />It used to encapsulate.<br />Is it still a suicide <br />If the performer denies <br />The transcendence <br />Of the self disposed?",

"content": "WORDS FOR WHAT? - by Olmo Filho<br />(559 words)<br /><br />This page was made to foster a regular writing habit, accumulating material over time on the part of the author, who now refers to himself in the third person. In a vision, he was portrayed in his 60's, austerely going through all the pieces and compiling some kind of ‘intellectual memoir’, allegedly filled with things worth saying. <br /><br />Yes, he realizes this is a silly idea. Initially unsure of what or how to write, it all started with some poems, which were often manageable in a couple of hours, making it a pragmatically (the current ultimate value) sustainable endeavor in the long run. <br /><br />Then it occurred to him that one could design visual poems, crafted out of colorful and creatively displayed versions of the rhymes – a prosaic miracle made convenient by modern text editing technology – so the posts look more appealing in a social media feed (why not go for some views and likes as well?). Yes, he realizes this was also a silly idea, Gosh, some of the designs look so stupid. But they are beloved, one way or another. <br /><br />Then fiction stories came along, because the poems proved to be too compact, and sometimes obscure, to represent all thoughts deemed important to register. Which thoughts are important to register? How about the ones which provide the knowledge of what is important to register? Moreover, writing stanzas about murders, suicides and rapes are prone to elicit the wrong kind of attention – this recurring imagery goes better when diluted in the smoke of disputably unnecessary words. <br /><br />Some argumentative essays came out as well, of course, as almost a decade of higher education must be used for something, even if it's something useless. But mainly, limitations of the author's skills made it difficult for him to discuss the ideas being contended, with sufficient depth and within the confines of a literary tale, simultaneously. Regardless, one should never forget that art is superior to philosophy. <br /><br />The cycle was completed when it became obvious that the words displayed throughout the essays were unforgivably boring, pointless, and, most important, aesthetically lacking. If A holds, so, under B, C must cause D, therefore, please, shut up, you’re a sophist just like all the others. <br /><br />Toggling between known styles was not a display of flexibility, but a symptom of their mutually complementary inadequacies to face the challenge at hand: a uniquely confused, rootless, world, in an overloaded, yet empty, epoch. <br /><br />The Word to redeem this World must be beautiful, must be art, must be read, and must be understood for what It is True. What is Its style? Is It a wasteland of poems? Prose? Poetic prose – if there is such a title? Letter? Memoirs? Chronicles? Journals? Myths? Scientific papers (most certainly not)? Are the words now being read (or more likely ignored) pointing in a good direction? <br /><br />This is the ultimate task of our generation: to (re?)discover the meaning of what is worth being written, now, so the Truths of the future, strong, will anchor its meaning through a past perennial, read again, for the first time, today.<br /><br />To this puzzle, the author (if one dares calling him such) now dedicates his humble hobby.
