6 eggs per day—roughly 180 eggs per month (or 15 dozen). <br /><br />My monthly feed costs $80, and this is for high-quality, locally sourced, non-GMO feed. <br /><br />If I were to buy organic, non-GMO, pasture-raised eggs from the store, I’d be paying around $8 per dozen, totaling $120 for 15 dozen. <br /><br />That means I save $40 a month by raising my own chickens. <br /><br />Of course, this doesn’t account for my time spent watering, collecting eggs, and doing general upkeep, but those tasks are minimal. <br /><br />Several factors affect the cost of raising chickens, including: <br /><br />-The number of chickens you have <br />-The breed (some lay daily, while others only lay every few days) <br />-The type of feed you use<br />-The time of year and availability of forage <br />If you’re after conventional caged eggs from sick and diseased chickens, then yes, those eggs are cheaper than raising your own flock.<br /><br />So, no, I don’t believe raising chickens for
