"content": "LAKEWOOD, CA: A group of volunteers distributed the first PRINTED NEWSPAPER for east Lakewood.<br /><br />The Lakewood Populist wished to serve the underserved communities of east Lakewood, where a large proportion of the city's homeless encamp and where near half the city's omicides have occurred since 2000. Therefore, the Lakewood Populist dedicated its first special neighborhood print edition to the east Lakewood communities. <br /><br />Several residents, upon being told that the newspaper was about their local community, appeared eager to read it. Only a handful delcined the newspaper, which was their right and we respect that.<br /><br />Two thousand newspapers were printed, the vast majority of them being folded, rolled up and delivered to homes between the 605 Freeway and Coyote Creek. Unfortunately, we needed about 400 more to reach the homes south of Centralia Street and east of Norwalk Boulevard, as well as maybe 150 other houses scattered across east Lakewood's district 5 area. <br /><br />The project was all volunteer and allowed those involved to bond and get some long overdue exercise. <br /><br />Stories included: biographies of this year's two district 5 City Council candidates, a timeline of \"The Purge\" in Lakewood crimes and the resulting emergency public safety measure, a blurb about ABC Unified and Cerritos College students and faculty fighting for their civil rights against Covid mandates, and an exhortation for the citizens of east Lakewood to fight for their rights via staying informed and politically organizing.<br /><br />The newspaper was delivered to several east Lakewood eateries: <br /><br />- The Loft Hawaiian Grill (Pioneer/Del Amo)<br />- Pioneer Donuts (Pioneer/Centralia)<br />- Gangnam Korean BBQ (Pioneer/Centralia)<br />- Brothers Korean BBQ (Norwalk/Centralia)<br />- Ahead Stylist Barber Shop (Norwalk/Centralia)<br />- Donut City (Norwalk/Centralia)<br />- Sun's Donuts (Bloomfield/Centralia)",

This resulted in LA-area TV news broadcasts covering the story, setting off an emergency public safety committee hearing and passage of an emergency $400,000 public safety action plan.<br /><br />\"The focus is highly visible patrols, marked vehicles, uniformed guards within our residential areas,\" said Public Safety Director Joshua Yordt at the committee meeting, March 5, 2022.<br /><br />Lakewood received nine proposals from security companies anxious to take part in the city's $175,000, 3-month pilot program of private security guards. The Lakewood Populist is seeking to get a list of the other 8 companies that did not win the contract.<br /><br />Southwest Patrol has told Lakewood officials that the program can be up within two to three weeks. <br /><br />There is an option for patrols to consist of armed security guards, said City Manager Thaddeus McCormack, who said he didn't believe Lakewood would choose that option. "content": "If you want an idea of how populism can beat the Marxist ideology in CA, just look to southeast Los Angeles County. In particular, check out the neighborhood of east Lakewood, divided by the San Gabriel River and/or 605 Freeway from the rest of the city.<br /><br />The neighborhood is inundated with HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS. Women have reported being attacked. Congested housing, thanks to Dem mandates, has coincided with a proliferation of area homicides. Evidently it will tell me whenever I've been around someone with Covid. <br /><br />Well, this will certainly NOT violate by right to freely assemble, *COUGH!* *COUGH!*<br /><br />I refused to open the app.<br /><br />BTW, while at the hospital, I had a nurse pressure me to get the vaccine. \"So many people have gotten sick with Covid,\" she said. After I told her that I already had Covid, she went onto tell me horror stories of those suffering long-term side effects, such as brain fog and the inability to concentrate, after having contracted the CCP Virus / Wuhan Flu.<br /><br />My older relatives, 70s and 80s, and similarly-aged friends have had Covid and survived.
