The clerics of the Crimson Crescent reported 305 people had been injured, with 5 of them almost at the doorstep of the Gods.<br /><br />The mournful events followed a series of prior occurrences, notably the planning of a Sun Festival and the eviction of four Moon Genasi families from the Eastern Quarter. Both of these are actually related - the arguments about whether the Eastern Quarter belongs to the Sun or the Moon Genasi are many dozens of years old by now.<br /><br />In the middle of it all stands the Stone Temple - a sacred palace for both the Sun and the Moon cults. As the Solar Ones were preparing for a Sun Festival dedicated to capturing the Easter Quarter, a number of Lunar Ones occupied the Temple with undeclared purposes.<br /><br />No one is sure when it began, but at a certain point skirmishes between the two Genasi tribes began. In order to nip the unrest in its bud, the King of Ish-Rayil sent his personal Royal Guard to disperse the crowds. While the Guard used only blunt swords and staves instead of spears, the injuries were many amongst the common folk. A number of the Guardsmen suffered at the hands of the peasants as well.<br /><br />The rulers of the other lands, who had heard about the clashes, were generally not impressed. Damages include fallen trees blocking the roads, which makes fleeing from the disaster even more difficult.<br /><br />The Eastarian Council of Eminent Houses has acted with haste and dispatched a squad of paladins merely hours after the disaster struck. Amongst them members of the Order of the Temple, skilled in dispersing magic and dealing with evil sorcerers.<br /><br />While the Cult (cursed be their names) has been a problem for some time in Eastaria, such a massive attack is the first of its kind. This, however, was bound to change, when a pro-north prince inherited the throne of the Domain.<br /><br />Out of 377 beheadings in the past two years, 296 criminals were the members of the drow race, who have historically been enslaved by their high-elf brethren. This fact alone was enough for the Prince of Fairmaiden to suspend and later abolish the practice. “August theurges speak of divine justice for all under heavens, and yet somehow that justice falls on the necks of the former slaves,” said the prince.<br /><br />Some of the southern princes condemned the decision, while others commended it. "content": "A number of human realms of the Old Human League temporarily banned necromancers from performing healing following a number of deaths. The royal families stated that there was no definite link between the death magic and the untimely demise of the patients.<br /><br />With the plague ravaging the lands, Temples of Light and Druidic Circles have not been enough to cure all the sick. It was at this dire time that the human necromancers came forward and offered a novel approach - infuse the ailing with a weak spectre of death, so that in terror their spirit started grasping for life harder, thus expelling the affliction from their bodies by sheer willpower. Surprisingly enough, the death magic worked, and soon droves of peasants were seen bringing ritual offerings before necromancers’ cave hideouts.<br /><br />The recent deaths soured the black magicians’ boasts. The kings, queens and chiefs of the land say that the health of their subject is of supreme concern to them, and thus they are banning the practice of death magic healing until a thorough investigation is performed.<br /><br />The necromancers have released a joint statement, in which they deny the link between the deaths and their practices. As of the recent moon, His Royal Majesty the Sultan of the Tar Lands has decreed that women can now also become warriors and train with the spear and blade.<br /><br />”While the idea of maidens engaging in blood feuds is abominable, practical matters leave us no choice,” said the Sultan. This is a reference to the many wars being fought at the Sultan’s behest, and the lack of men that remain home during the fighting. And yet, like an ice phoenix (the hunting of which is prohibited on the territory of the kingdom - note by the demand of the Royal Gamekeeper), it rises again, but this time only in the Lett River Duchy.<br /><br />The games, being a grand and populous affair, are usually hosted by two sovereign realms, as dictates the tradition. Indeed, 'twas decreed that both the Lett River Duchy and West Rauthenica shall accommodate the champions. Alas, in the end, only the former of the two will have this honour. The reason for such a change is twofold: the doubts about the integrity of the Rauthenican Tsar, and the handling of the ongoing plague in the Tsardom.<br /><br />Poor harvests and dire winters have driven the Rauthenican peasants to desperation. It has been expected that the Rauthenican Tsar and his land-holding vassals will support the starving serfs, but, alas, no carts of wheat and no barrels of onions has ever arrived from the monarch's private estates.<br /><br />Even more so, the plague has been decimating the population for a whole year now, and yet only in the last few months the Rauthenican court apothecaries have been dispatched to the villages of the land to support the local herbalists.<br /><br />While these seem to be two problems, the neighbouring realms believe both stem from the same source - the Tsar himself. After more than 10 years of dispute he ordered a local oil merchant guild to compensate the common folk living along the trade routes for oil that had been spilling from leaky vats.<br /><br />According to the victims, the spilled oil attracted birds of prey, who, having consumed all that was to be found on the road, moved to harass the cattle. Even more so, the bovines themselves were drawn to the oil and ended up following the caravans and getting lost. In total, two tenths of all local herds have been reported missing.<br /><br />Ikis n-Katha i-Kxana, the master of the oil merchant guild, attributes the spills to local ruffians purposefully damaging the vats and casting charm spells on the caravan animals to behave erratically. According to him, there were deliberate attempts to steal fragrant oils so treasured by all nobles, for a vial of such an oil is worth more than any peasant's house.<br /><br />When asked to produce proof, however, the honourable Ikis was not able to name even a single sorcerer amongst the commonfolk. Thus, his arguments were dismissed.<br /><br />When asked by our scribes if he thinks the Incarnated Sovereign's ruling was unjust, the honourable Ikis maintained silence. After all, in his savviness and shrewdness, he values his life more than his oils.
