"content": "A quick painting of bromeliads growing on a tree. I haven't worked with watercolor inks for a while, so I did this small piece on the watercolor sketchpad. After this, I'll begin coloring the E.O. Wilson piece I did. "content": "Sneak peak of my first batch of ink drawings for the Rainforest Project: Piranha, Goliath Tarantula, Veiled Stinkhorn Mushroom, Bromeliads, Sachamama, and the Shrunken Head. I'll be coloring these digitally...we'll see how that goes, considering it's been a hot minute since I did that :)<br /><br />Working on a sketch today of E.O. Wilson, famed biologist who died just after Christmas...I have many books of his, and his autobiography remains one of my favorites. Never mind resolutions; I just want to get better at forming good habits. <br /><br />What to expect from me--lots of pen and ink WIP shots for a personal project on the Amazon Rainforest, watercolor/pen sketchpad work, larger watercolor and ink pieces of the same themes to be made into prints, and of course, more posts in general.<br /><br />The above piece is a shrunken head--I used a picture taken in the Amazon basin ~1960 when tsantsa was still actively practiced by inner forest tribes to harness the power of their enemy. Apparently, the heads became a hot commodity when Europeans started bringing them out of the jungle in the late 1800s, so much so that the tribes that engaged in the practice (like the Jivaro) began killing more people to make more shrunken heads. In the 1930s, Ecuador and Peru outlawed tsantsa, and today--as far as anyone really knows--the tradition has all but disappeared.",
