"content": "We began the day at Ansuz Society with a 6am hike to the mountaintop in order to greet the sun.<br /><br />The Spring Equinox marks the traditional Easter celebration, the moment when the Sun crosses the equator from south to north. This is when animals like rabbits, deer, chipmunks, and other creatures of the forest begin to have their offspring. Various flora also emerge around this time, dotting the landscape with hints of color. During the Spring Equinox we pay special attention to the great Goddess in her youthful form of Ostara, Goddess of the Dawn. Ostara is associated with the rising Sun in the East, fertility, and light; a beacon of joy and good fortune. To many ancient Germanic Pagans, Ostara was credited with Springs deliverance. From her name we derive the modern word Easter, nodding to the Pagan origins of this holiday. To Ostara we make offerings and pray for a good year, thanking her for the return of the light. "content": "Here is a little review on a book that I recently finished and highly recommend. Spreading the word in case anyone is looking for something new! <br /><br />Stephen Pollington’s book “Leechcraft: Early English Charms, Plantlore, and Healing” contains an excellent compendium of plant remedies, folk cures (without the new-age fluff) and ancestral wisdom of Old English times. Pollington translates and analyzes Anglo-Saxon healing texts including the Old English Herbarium, Leechbook of Bald, and Lacnunga. He includes original documents translated from Old English to modern English. <br /><br />Various other practices are touched on including the use of galdr, seidr, amulets, charms, divination, dreams, omens, fate and well-being, incantation, tree lore, shamanism and theories of magic. <br /><br />“The Norse notion of the “spirit companion”or fylgja “follower” is probably influenced by Lappish traditional views of the otherworld and its inhabitants, but these may have merely served to reinforce ideas already present in Germanic thought. Not infrequently the fylgja is initially a hostile animal - a bear, boar or wolf - which initiates the human being, often through imagined ritual dismemberment. The fylgja’s closest reflex in English tradition has been seen in the poems The Seafarer and The Wanderer. The appearance of the spirit companion to the person in a dream may betoken his imminent death.”",
