"content": "From the amount of people excited for the changing of the guard in the US today, who think that America and the world are now on some new path of love, hope and unicorns, I can't help feeling that, after 4 years of Trump, we still don't understand what's actually going on.<br /><br />Trump didn't create division in America as much as he exposed divisions which were already there, and have been for decades. Much to the annoyance of the middle classes who like to believe that those unpalatable types they've seen emboldened and amplified over the last 4 years previously only existed for their light entertainment on Jerry Springer.<br /><br />Now that Pandora's Box has been opened, nobody is closing it any time soon, and certainly not if their name is Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. Trump had no intention of bringing people together, and - as anyone who has paid more than 3 minutes of attention to Joe Biden knows - nor does he.<br /><br />Biden is fortunate in that the hard-of-thinking will gush and fawn over him on the sole basis that he isn't Donald Trump, but he is no pragmatist and no unifier. He will not heal divisions, he will not bring people together, and he has no intention of trying. As for his VP - I imagine she's counting her blessings that most of the media can't see beyond her gender or her race, because if they could, her rather unsavoury career path and utter disdain for black working-class people would soon come back to bite her in the arse.<br /><br />The reality is, this is all about class. It always has been, and it always will be. The sooner everyone wraps their head around this point, the sooner things may begin to improve. Very nearly all of it's content is user generated, most of which also host short video advertisements.<br />While YouTube was actually founded in December of 2005, I personally didn't really use it until that following year. <br />By the time I heard about it, and started using the service regularly, Google had already acquired the company.<br />See, most people are under the mistaken assumption that Google didn't acquire YouTube until 2014. <br />It even says so on Wikipedia.<br />(Never blatantly take that site at it's word, articles can be revised, easily, to change facts for opinions)<br />That's actually right around the time that Susan Wojcicki, the current CEO of YouTube, was appointed.<br />You're going to notice alot of that sort of thing in this review. <br />Promise.<br />While I'm on the subject of Susan, I'd like to point out that not only, has she been a major influence in Google since its founding, it was actually Susan herself that suggested the idea of acquiring YouTube, in 2006.<br />She was, in fact, Google's first Marketing Manager in 1999.<br />Now, as much as I want to make this review one big \"Fuck You\" to THE proto-Karen, that's not the objective here.<br />Instead, I'm gonna talk about the companies tense relationship with the creator community, from which the majority of YouTubes content flows.<br />Most of the troubles honestly began in 2014 (honk honk), with what is often considered the Adpocolypse. At the time, it was rare for creators to be deplatformed. Even posting edgy, controversial content that would get you cancelled was the norm, back then.<br />As YouTubes algorithm got more advanced, more and more channels got regulated, to the state it is in now.<br />Arbitrary, TOS related penalties increased in punitive scale, severity and variety, from demonetization of the channel to varying degrees, to outright banning indefinitely. <br />Alex Jones is the single most extreme case of this, in my opinion. <br />No matter what your stance on freedom of speech, on whether you like YouTube or not, its prevalence on the internet is surpassed only by Google itself. <br />Which means precisely nothing.<br />Because YouTube is an extension of Google. Subject to the same corporate greed and Nepotism, and all that entails.<br />And just like that company, YouTube is the Gatekeeper of almost all videos on the internet.<br />For any creators still vaguely attached to the platform, particularly those that put food on your tables, I ask this:<br />Given the direction Big Tech has leaped regarding censorship and greed, why continue to work with a publisher that treats you like pond scum? Why put all your eggs in one basket, for that matter?<br />Would you tolerate a boss in real life that forces you to work without pay, if you step out of line by the tiniest degree? Or, outright fires you, just for being you, regardless of productivity? <br />For your consideration.<br />Given all of this, I rate YouTube a bare bones 3/10.<br />Thank you for reading.<br /><br />",
