I thought it was corny. I didn't like Ben because he grated on my nerves at time but looking back, I still watched the show and it was because of the action and the aliens and looking back...yeah.....the way Ben and Gwen fought.....been there. Kids do that and I didn't want to admit it because when the show first aired, I as at the age where my mom would make me watch kids like Ben and Gwen and I would just pull out the 'OH GOD SHUT UP!' card but I digress. I want you guys to compare and contrast Ben and Steven.<br /><br />Both are around the same age, both are shows that deal with aliens and various Earth endangering events right to the point that Gwen and Ben being connected to aliens but what did Steven Universe fail at that Ben 10 got right, not including the toys?<br /><br />Ben was allowed to be a hero.<br /><br />Ben messed up a LOT in the original series but that's partly because he IS a hot headed kid that was saddled with a MASSIVE responsibility that while cool on the surface took a lot of control to exactly master. But in the end, he kept going no matter how weird shit got and in the end we SEE that hero that everyone becomes. Ben actually gets to fight.<br /><br />Steven, despite being the most powerful person in the universe due to him being his mom reborn or however they put it, remains at the exact same level he started as. People can argue that 'he got stronger' but he never does. He never does because Future fucked it up by revealing that SUDDENLY all of this shit is too much and NOW he's getting hurt even though past episodes showed him having all these powers to take it. So in the end, Steven ends up in a weaker position than when he started.<br /><br />And let's get into the alien aspect of things.<br /><br />Ben is surrounded by cool ass aliens that he gets to become. They all have different abilities that may or may not be useful for the moment and in those cases where Ben makes a mistake, he's forced to use his critical thinking to figure out what to do in the situation, sometimes on his own without the help of Max, Gwne or anyone else. He's put in tough spots and you wonder how he's going to get out.<br /><br />SU puts 'tough spots' in but they're all wasted in the last moment when suddenly 'things are not as they appear' which usually leads back to something happening because on of the gems was having an emotional issue because of their thirsting for another stupid gem.<br /><br />Everything that happens in Steven Universe can be boiled down to emotionally manipulative sex addict gems that hurt each other and bring everyone they come into contact with into their shitty drama. It's essentially a story about a boy getting fucked by the lesbian sex cult his mom bounced from and being too brainwashed to see that they're manipulating him and possibly fucking him under age.<br /><br />What kid would want to be a 'hero' like that?<br /><br />The overall 'message' that Steven Universe brings out is let people walk all over you because of their fee-fees they won't let go. And like the little bitch he was, Steven took it and became fucked up. He leaves broken and confused, not a warrior or a hero and it's not because of some actual competent villain. It's all because he had to baby sit adult children who don't know how to function but do know how to manipulate each other.<br /><br />Again, what kid, let alone a boy, would want to be that.<br /><br />Getting back to Ben 10....he grows up to mature into a hero due to the lessons he had to go through but removing the fantasy elements from it, he just grows up to be a good man and despite what a lot of these progressive claim about toxic masculinity and all that shit, he ISN'T a 'toxic' person.<br /><br />STEVEN is more toxic and we see this happen in the show and it's never called out as it should have been. It's hugged away and he leaves....only to go to 'the real world' where the exact same shit the gems were acting on is let buck wild so he's not going to get any better. <br /><br />Yeah, this is silly to look at cartoons like this but I'm responding this way due to people who keep trying to make cartoons more 'deep' than they need to be without realizing that we've already had shows cover the things they claim to want, WITHOUT throwing the target demo under the bus and letting them have FUN. <br /><br />FUN is the most important thing and Steven Universe is not FUN, especially for boys. Yo, boys can like whatever they want and that's the point. They can like WHATEVER THEY WANT and guess what? Not a lot of boys are going to LIKE the shit that Steven Universe projects. A lot of boys still like action and there should be no problem in letting them have that. Let them have that choice to pick what they want to see but as we've seen, the fucktards in charge now are NEVER going to let kids have that choice. They are going to try to get them to eat their pastel vomit, bean-mouth sausage bodied people but you want to know the best thing about this?<br /><br />Kids are saying no.<br /><br />You wonder why Cartoon Network is in 3rd place and failing?<br /><br />Because KIDS SAID NO.<br /><br />Cartoon Network can not and SHOULD NOT rely just on the nostalgia factor of us who are nearing 30 and 40. Yes, it's nice to enjoy animation and have a variety for all ages to enjoy but these onslaught of animation that is aimed at stunted adults? Even I'M sick of it as an adult because it's just not entertaining. These series are old and have so many incarnations but within that, they really don't tell the fandom which version they should like in order to be true fans.<br /><br />Contrast to how Star Wars is treating its fans at the moment and how they're trying so hard to erase the past and replace with a 'time appropriate' version that is not only costing money but does not have the attention grabbing powers as the original series.<br /><br />I've been looking at a LOT of TMNT stuff recently and I'm still finding out about story versions that I had no idea existed but they keep reprinting and it made me realize how fucking TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES not only respects its fans in terms of creating new content but also just remembering its roots and not being ashamed of it.<br /><br />TMNT keeps making things that respects the original Mirage line, the 87s line, the 2003 line and so on and it does all of this to satisfy the many fans it has no matter which version they're fans off. Hell, even when Rise was airing I noticed the TMNT Twitter page never tried to forget the 2010 and 87 series existed and would constantly have fun with the fact that so many version of the turtles existed. They never played this generational war that current Star Wars is doing by trying to separate fans from a thing they grew up with.<br /><br />And hell, as drama filled as the Sonic fandom is, it sort of does this too. It doesn't try to bury the Genesis era (possiblybecausthenostalgiafactorofitbringsinthemostmoney) or say that 'Oh, this is bad because it doesn't match up to TODAY'S standards so it must be erased' and so on. Yeah, SEGA has done some dumbfuck shit over the years but again, not as painfully aggravating as Star Wars.<br /><br />If anything, I think this shows that a massive generation of fans can get along just so long as you DON'T PURPOSELY START SHIT with them.
