We should let them know we don't like it before Minds gets broken.<br /><br />It's not about tokens, but it starts with them. <br /><br />One of the biggest <a class=\"u-url mention\" href=\"https://www.minds.com/Minds\" target=\"_blank\">@Minds</a> selling points has been tokens. Minds lured new users with promises of tokens and of the wonderful things users would be able to do with them. <br /><br />On March 16, 2021, dreams became true: users could now earn money just by holding tokens on-chain and providing liquidity.<br /><br />But about a week before that, another change happened. Quietly, unannounced. Minds users suddenly couldn’t use tokens to pay for Minds+ anymore. <br /><br />That was a huge change – many users had been earning tokens with exactly that purpose. Now this possibility was quietly taken away. <br /><br />More than that – as it turned out, the new token benefits promised to everyone were made available only to those who paid for Minds+ with US$. Thus, Minds divided its users into two classes: the privileged, and the rest.<br /><br />On April 22, even worse thing happened. Minds announced that from now on, the votes of those who didn’t pay for Minds+ - of 90% of its users – wouldn’t count toward engagement rewards. Your votes, comments and reminds ain’t worth nothing in the new token system.<br /><br />The change, just as the one before, came out of the blue, without consultations with community or any warning.<br /><br />It’s a huge change, and it isn’t just about tokens. It’s much more than that. It’s about trust.<br /><br />In the first version of the Minds Whitepaper (v0.1) <a class=\"u-url mention\" href=\"https://www.minds.com/ottman\" target=\"_blank\">@ottman</a>, <a class=\"u-url mention\" href=\"https://www.minds.com/jack\" target=\"_blank\">@jack</a> and others wrote:<br /><br />“Fraud and a general lack of transparency are major problems facing the social networking, payments and digital ad spaces […] [M]ainstream networks have started showing a double standard and are not treating all users equally under their policies”<br /><br />Minds promised to change it, but instead it changed itself, starting to behave just like other social networks. Lack of transparency, all users aren’t treated equally – that’s what’s happening on Minds since mid-March. <br /><br />I myself brought to Minds some 3000-5000 users from Facebook, promising them that Minds will treat them with respect. Now I feel that I’ve failed them: Minds is treating us with the same disregard as Facebook or Twitter.<br /><br />Most of us came here not for tokens but for free speech, Minds promising to be a free speech champion. <br /><br />But how can we trust its promises? How can we be sure that one day, without warning, Minds won’t change its mind about free speech, just as it’s changed its mind about transparency and equality? <br /><br />In the second version of Minds Whitepaper (v0.5), <a class=\"u-url mention\" href=\"https://www.minds.com/ottman\" target=\"_blank\">@ottman</a> wrote:<br /><br />“Every user’s voice carries the same voting weight on Minds, making it a truly community-operated and democratized system”.<br /><br />The recent changes are brazenly undemocratic. Voices of those of us who do not pay in US$ do not carry any weight now. Your voice doesn’t count, in the most literal sense. Just as they didn’t on Facebook or Twitter. <br /><br />I still hope it’s an honest mistake on the Minds’ side. A mistake that can be easily fixed.<br /><br />Three things should be rolled back, for us to start trusting Minds again:<br /><br />1. Users should be able to pay for Minds+ with tokens, again. On a current market exchange rate, probably with some small surcharge, insuring administration from excessive volatility.<br /><br />2. Every voice must count. The engagement reward system should be rolled back to the state before April 22, 2021.<br /><br />3. The Minds administration should consult its users before any major policy changes.
