The more it will become true and stay true.<br />**The more you believe the negativity, the less you'll look for opportunities to learn and improve. <br />**The more accustomed you get to the sound of negativity, the less you will trust positivity. <br /><br />... and round and round you go.<br /><br />Here's how to flip the script:<br /><br />**Look for ways to compliment others' writing without speaking negatively of your own ... or comparing. And when it comes to our writing, world events can sweep us up and away from our goals ... or even leave us feeling guilty and self-indulgent for even wanting to write in the first place. As in ...<br /><br />Why do stories matter when so many strange and frightening things are happening?<br /><br />If people are going to write, shouldn't they sideline whatever they're working on and write about current events instead?<br /><br />Here's the truth: every story has value for this world, including your story. To write it, reflect on your own principles. Recommit to your original inspiration. Find your own solid ground, inside, to stand on, using these prompts:<br /><br />1) Why is writing important to you?<br />2) What do you see as its role in this world?<br />3) Why is your work-in-progress important to you?<br />4) What are your standards for the writing life?
